A F-F-F-rosty Good Morning to Everyone!
Brrrrr! It's turned cold here. We stand at 34 degrees currently.
At least there is no wind and the sun is out.
Would you believe, 73 is predicted by Saturday?
(We get roller-coaster weather around here this time of year.)
OK, our count:
Days to the Season: 14 (Two weeks from today!)
Days to Christmas Day: 56 (Eight weeks from today!)
Days to Halloween: 1 (TOMORROW!! Enough said.)
Well, tomorrow kicks off the string of 4 holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years)!
Don't you love having so much to celebrate so close together? Makes me feel right festive!
Have a Thrilling Thursday/Fantastic Friday Eve, everybody!

Still warm here in the Rocky Mountain west -- days near the mid 70s, nights in the 40s. They say this will likely be our warmest Halloween on record. It'll be nice to go trick or treating with the kids not having to wear parkas over their costumes. But, they do say winter should be here next week. 'bout time!

Can't say I remember Bing singing about a white Halloween...But we got one...Still snow on the ground when I left this morning...Earliest snow I ever remember...Our first year in this neighborhood we had a slight dusting of snow on Halloween morning but nuttin' like this...It's a mess too...Leaves, snow, mud, sticks, branches, all rolled into one pile of muck...I like the change of the seasons but not all of the seasons at one time!!!
Went on another of my "Last Gasp of Classic Rock" jaunts last night when I went to see The Who...Da boys still got it...Not bad for sixty-four years old...I fear that my concert days are numbered...And that saddens me...But I guess I can't be a teenager forever...

Good morning!!! :hi:
I had to do a double take at my thermometer this morning when I looked & it said 23º!!! BRRRRRR!!! Lots of frost on the rooftops this morning!! But it's supposed to be 68º by Saturday! I wish it would either get cold & stay cold, or get warm & stay warm!!! We are heading into the wrong season for warm, so it might as well stay cold!!!
I can't believe the clocks turn back THIS weekend already!!! That means there will be about 1 1/2 hours of daylight left when I get off work & it won't be long & there will only be 1 hour of daylight left!! Kinda depressing.... Makes me want to put on my pj's as soon as I get home! Ah well...might as well enjoy it!!!
Enjoy the snow Jayish!!!! :snowball:
Hope you all have a great day!!!

Nice and cold here but, it's expected to warm up to the 60's on Friday. Oh well, the grass needs cut anyway and the hubby doesn't like to go out there and do it when it's cold! Sissy! Went to K-Mart today and saw that they sprayed the fake snow in a can on the garden shop doors. That's when it's officially Christmas in the store. When they frost the windows up they have about all of their stock out on the shelves. I noticed that there isn't much left for Halloween and more Christmas stuff is being brough out. Now if they would just resume playing Christmas music in the Christmas section it would be nearly perfect!

Ah! Indeed! We should have been counting down to the end of DST! Missed my chance.
Another c-c-c-c-cold one this AM where we once again stand at 34.
The weather service still says 70's for tomorrow, though.
At least no precip is in the forecast.
OK, guys! A holiday has been reached. Zero more days to Halloween!
It is here!

At this point, I will add Thanksgiving to the countdown!
Our count:
Days to the Season: 13 (Less than 2 weeks!)
Days to Christmas Day: 55 (Less than 8 weeks!)
Days to Thanksgiving Day: 27 (Less than 4 weeks!)
I guess you will all note that our Season start, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day all fall on Thursday this year. Now won't that make for a string of Thrilling Thursdays!!
In the meantime, have a Fabulous Friday, Folks.
And I hope your Weekend gets off to a Wonderous start this afternoon!

We started at 4:30 with a big, neighborhood block party in the middle of a street blocked off to traffic. After a couple of hours eating, drinking and chatting -- and watching the children run around together in big flocks of kids -- we all went home to give out candy. Or - go trick-or-treating with our kids.
Maybe it was the warm weather. Maybe it was the block party. But all the kids trick-or-treating (even the high school ones) seemed sweet and calm and polite. It was a beautiful, gentle night.
BUT NOW -- I'm tired. And I want LOTS of coffee!

Good Morning, everyone! Has your weekend gotten off to a good start?
(With our fabulous Christmas Season less than 2 weeks away, how could it not be??)
With that lead-in, let's check on the count:
Days to the Season: 12 (Incredible! Look how close we are to single digits!)
Days to Christmas Day: 54
Days to Thanksgiving Day: 26
Cold again, with our temp standing at 38, currently.
It's suposed to warm up quickly, however, and we should have great weather at the coast, for which we are just about to leave.
Thanks again for volunteering to do the count, Jay!
Well, I'll see you all either Wednesday or Thursday morning.
Have a Stupendous Saturday, Friends!
And keep that Christmas song in your heart to keep the spirit of the Season company.

Okay - okay :hello: You know you are a Christmas Wacko when ... you dress up for Halloween as the dolly from the Island of Misfit toys and hand out Christmas pencils with festive erasers on top instead of Halloween candy.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/AuntieMistletoe/BatMoon.gif
I did it at work because I've been so open about my Christmas quirks the last five years (more in the last two than ever before) everyone thinks I'm a bit of a misfit and that can be scary. HaHa.
So, there I was festively dropping jolly pencils into children's bags saying, "HoHoHo Merry Christmas!" Only one boy corrected me, a few others looked confused and yet a few other (future forum members) cheered the same greeting as they went off to trick-or-treat at another office. Bet all they got there was caramels or something like that.
Have a jolly Saturday!

Isn't it sad that the people at your office don't get to celebrate and enjoy magic and delight - as much as we do? What poor, poor jerks they are! Yes, SparkleNana it is a shame more of them don't jump in and celebrate with me. I have had a cheery influence on a handful of co-workers. When someone new joins us and are having a tour, I'm introduced as "the Christmas Nut". Now and then I run across a new employee who thinks it's wonderful.

I was playing my Rudolph Soundtrack CD through my computer too instead of eerie Halloween music. A friend of mine dressed up as a Christmas tree, but she had more of a Tim Burton flair to her costume.

O'Malley the cat was sick on Thursday and Friday. Really sick. I called the Vet in the afternoon to ask if there was anymore I could do for him or when I should really start worrying. He woke us up Thursday morning like always and then started hacking up a hairball. He continued to vomit eight times throughout the day and started "caving" and resting in unusual places.
On Thursday, it continued although not as much as Friday. The Vet suggested not feeding him and only providing fresh water. She was concerned how many times he was vomiting. With hairballs, it doesn't usually last that long, she was concerned about a blockage. I told her if he wasn't better by Saturday I'd bring him in. I didn't want to put him through the horror of the large cat carrier, I wasn't concerned about a blockage. His toys are not choking hazards and he doesn't eat human food.
Well, my husband made a cave for him with a box the size of the cat carrier and towels for comfort and a blanket to cover it and a large entry and a peak window. He went in at dinner time and was still there when we went to bed.
Yesterday morning, he woke us up with his famous "meraaaaaaaaaaw". It was music to our ears.
I called the Vet back at 10:00 before I headed out to go shopping. I told her he woke us up and is watching the chickadees and woodpeckers at the bird feeder and seems to have bounced back overnight. We are continuing to ration his food and I swept all the hair up from the carpets with a straw broom before running the vacuum as an added precaution. He's been grooming more lately and I figured he's growing extra fur for the winter.
At dinner time lastnight, he was chasing a small housefly around and when he ate him he decided it was time to chase his tail.
This morning O'Malley is back in action! Ready to get groovy to any music that moves him.

Speaking of shopping ... :)& I picked up three more Christmas gifts at the Hallmark store yesterday, two more boxes of Christmas cards, gift tags, four rolls of Scotch Tape. I had two women I don't know smelling the Scotch tape and said, "ummm smells like pine needles." One lady said, "that's neat." Then I heard "security scan section nine". I said, "here we go again". Do ya think they'd ban me from the store just for sniffing the tape.
Hey, Crown - you awake yet? I tried to enjoy that extra hour of sleep, but O'Malley has never observed the whole Daylight Savings Time thing.
:D Have a great Sunday.

Good Morning! Happy Daylight Savings Day! Happy Sunday, November 2nd!!!!
Did you see the ad from Starbucks on TV? It ends with saying - in the USA - on November 4th -- if you tell Starbucks that you have voted -- that they will give you a free tall regular coffee. The ad ends with "Starbucks. Its about more than the coffee." The ad is all about caring and trying to make the world a better place. Nice thoughts!

Okay, so if I have this correct, this is a daily thread counting down the days until Christmas (starting with last Christmas????) and the goal is to beat the year before's # of posts and pages?
If I'm correct, (I'm only on page 20 of reading and it looks like there are over 300-so I have a way to go) I'll do my best to help meet the goal.

christmasgranny, you've got it pretty much right. We count down the days to "the season" (Nov. 13th) & to Christmas Day, along with the mile markers (1/4, 1/2, 3/4 of the way there there, etc.) I don't think it's really a "race" to beat last years #'s, it just happens that people enjoy checking in here every day & posting, & we get more posts than the year before. It would be great to have you join in on the fun!!
Hope you all have a great Sunday! I am off to my parents house to clean their house! My 3 sisters & I are going to give it a good cleaning. We have never done this before, but our Mom is almost 80, so we think she deserves a "cleaning lady(ies)" Then tonight it's off to ladies night at the hardware store for a sneak peek at their Christmas Shoppe!! They turn their garden center into a Christmas Wonderland. They are having refreshments, giving away a 36" wreath valued at $129.99, demonstrations on how to create designer silk wreaths, garlands & more, fresh balsam wreaths & live door sprays, & you get $5 off a $20 dollar Christmas Shoppe purchase!! Can't wait!!!! If my sisters wouldn't have a fit, I'd listen to Christmas music while cleaning this morning....ah well!!

You know it was weird. We had a fabulous October, weather-wise. One little skiff of snow -- a teaser, really -- back around the 12th and then it was just spectacular the rest of the way. Halloween morning dawned brilliantly as the tree in our front yard was simply on fire with color. Then, as the sun went down the winds picked up and those leaves came down on the trick or treaters. When it was completely dark it started to rain....and it hasn't let up since.
It was like the season changed just like that. The forecast for election day is rain changing to snow. Fall is much too brief.

Ending with a sparkling, fluffy magical snowfall for everyone in the world on Christmas Eve.This reminds me of a news story from last winter:
When snow falls in Baghdad (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22608593/)
The last sentence in the article is a reference to the James Joyce story "The Dead":A few light taps upon the pane made him turn to the window. It had begun to snow again. He watched sleepily the flakes, silver and dark, falling obliquely against the lamplight. The time had come for him to set out on his journey westward. Yes, the newspapers were right: snow was general all over Ireland. It was falling on every part of the dark central plain, on the treeless hills, falling softly upon the Bog of Allen and, farther westward, softly falling into the dark mutinous Shannon waves. It was falling, too, upon every part of the lonely churchyard on the hill where Michael Furey lay buried. It lay thickly drifted on the crooked crosses and headstones, on the spears of the little gate, on the barren thorns. His soul swooned slowly as he heard the snow falling faintly through the universe and faintly falling, like the descent of their last end, upon all the living and the dead.

Wencenslaus -- what a beautiful post!
What in the world does it mean?
Wenceslaus
11-02-2008, 08:19 PM
Well … you clicked through and read the article about the day last winter when it snowed in Baghdad, right? The last sentence of that article refers to the quotation from James Joyce.
If you're asking what that quotation from "The Dead" means, the short story (first published in 1914) is about a thirty-something Irishman who with his wife attends a festive dinner party with family and friends during Christmastime, perhaps a Twelfth Night feast on the eve of the Epiphany. Nothing that evening seems to happen as he expects it to, and several incidents leave him feeling shallow and pretentious. When preparing to leave the party, he sees his wife on the stairs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8V_V_WQAqw&feature=related), absorbed in thought, as a man sings a song in another room. He stares at her for a moment before he recognizes her as his wife.
Later that night, back at their hotel, he presses her for her thoughts. She tells him that she was thinking about a boy she once loved. Despite his being sick, when it came time for her to leave for convent school, he traveled through the rain to her window, and although he got to speak with her again, he ended up dying within the week. The husband has his own epiphany, realizing that this was probably the love of his wife's life. Once again, he begins to feel his own insignificance in the larger world of the living and the dead — which is how the story ends with that paragraph I quoted.
The snowfall can be interpreted several ways: simply God's healing grace; or with the snowfall's travel from the darkness to earth, a metaphor for how something out of the dim past can alight on us, as the wife's memories did; or with the description on how the snow falls the same whether over land or sea, hill or plain, a metaphor for the complete indifference of fate; or as the narrator says, our quiet journey from life (the heavens) to death (the earth). Regardless, it is one of the most haunting endings in literature.
Director John Huston's last movie was an adaptation of the story, starring his daughter Angelica Huston, with Donal McCann. The final scene (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvNRFfVelt4).

Days to Christmas Day: 52
Days to Thanksgiving Day: 24
Sorry for my lack of a post yesterday...The time got away from me and by the time I could have posted it was almost today...So I waited...I hope I have not disappointed our friend Crown by missing a day...
But look at that countdown??? When you think that we begin this on the first of January and that seems like such a short time ago!!! I'm looking forward to the minute by minute countdown that happens the night before the big day...Many of us meet in real time and countodwont he minutes until the arrival of the season...
Crown is off battening down the hatches and winterizing their cottage...another sure sign that Christmas is just a breath away!!!
Although Monday's are rarely my favorite day of the week, I hope everyone has a happy one!

marvelous Monday Morning Everyone! Wow, 10 days till the season starts, anybody started listening, and I mean really listening to Christmas music yet?
The season truly is fast approaching, and in four weeks (the week of Thanksgiving) the rest of the world will catch up with us.
I must confess, I am not in full swing yet, and wont be till the results of the election come in......which dont necesseraly come in tommorrow, but when they do......Christmas here I come. That's the down side to being a political junkie, the season is somewhat put on hold.
Anyway, have a great day, listen to some Christmas music, tis almost the season!

Caseydbell - Me too! Me too! I am a political junkie too! Well, it is ONLY every four years. (Although this one lasted for two years - but who is counting? I know, everyone is counting!)
But tomorrow! Tomorrow! The exit interviews! The frantic calls from precincts which have run out of ballots? CNN has a nation-wide number for people to call to report problems. (8,000 calls so far.) CNN is urging people to take their videocameras to the polls to document problems.
One newscaster called it the greatest show on earth tomorrow. Apparently the whole world is watching this American election. Such exciting, charismatic figures. McCain, Obama, Pallin - Biden? (Well, maybe Biden is not charismatic - but he isn't chopped liver either. His foot-in-the-mouth events alone are riviteing!)
The 2000 election took - what? - a month to get the results? The 2004 took 24-hours. And THEY didn't run out of ballots and voting booths.
Obama is certainly very different from George Bush. if Obama is elected -- it is so fascinating that the same country could elect such different politicians, one after the other!
I will be watching as much as I can tomorrow!

I am so excited for this election to be over!! I like to be informed, but when it gets to this point in the race I've heard enough! If it's my choice, I'll have the food network on tomorrow here at work so I don't have to listen to it all day!! BUT my boss will probably have Fox News on (just like every other day) unless he has running to do! Fingers are crossed!! Lol! I'll just be praying for the best man to win...the one who is going to do what is best all the way around for our Country!!

Good evening everyone...Haven't stopped in here for awhile. Hope you all are doing good. I've been busy with work and our home renovations. This evening I baked a few things for the bake sale tomorrow. My daughter attends an after school program when I work and the baked goods are to raise money for scholarships. All items will be sold at the local civic center here. This is also where people will vote. I hope they do well raising money for such a great cause. I noticed tonight while driving through town some of our local businesses are starting to decorate. I'm getting excited here. Normally our town doesn't decorate this early but since the Nations Christmas Tree will be staying a night in the town I live in the Mayor of the town has asked everyone to decorate early. I need to get on the ball...I haven't even taken down my Halloween decor yet...*L* But if I don't get around to it before the 10th of this month...I will enjoy seeing everyone else's lights and decor for now. And most importantly the magnificent 60+ ft Capitol Christmas Tree.

So - what will you be doing on Tuesday night? Will you be standing in line to vote? Will you be watching the analysis on TV? Will you just watch another show, or read a good book? And go to sleep - and decide you will wake up tomorrow morning to learn what happened?
If you are Republican, remember that you had the Presidency and 6 years of majority in Congress to do your agenda. And huge amounts of things got done during the two terms of Bush.
If you are Democrat, remember what it felt like to be out of power for 6 years , with the country supporting the Republicans. Try to be sensitive to the ones with genuine passion, who may be out of power now.
And, most important, remember that here at MyMerryChristmas, we are a world-wide family of good people, united in their love for Christmas!

Today was a record breaking day, temperature-wise in my "neck of the woods". A beautiful summery day (although it's November), we reached 70F, some days in the summer were not as warm as today.
Must have been the heat wave coming from the South as my U.S. neighbours took many forms of transportation to get out and vote.

It's great to be back.
Things are ship-shape at the cottage and the hatches are battened down to brave winter at the beach.
(Let me tell you, there are not many places I have been that feel colder than a walk on the beach with a frigid winter wind blowing off the ocean!)
Well, we will start with a big THANKS! to Jay for his assistance with the countdown while I was gone!
(And yes, he can make up for missing a day by sending me a nice down comforter.)
Incredible!
We are down to single digits to the season!
I've got my "Day 5 before-the-season" post ready to go for Nov 8.
But a sad note. I see that Dom has left us, circumstances unknown.
A shame. He was one of our very strongest supporters of the count.
He was also scheduled to do a special pre-season post for Day 2 before the season (Nov 11). Can we get a new volunteer for that date?
Recapping:
Day 5 (Nov 8) = Crown
Day 4 (Nov 9) = Binger
Day 3 (Nov 10) = Maureen
Day 2 (Nov 11) = -- OPEN --
Day 1 (Nov 12) = Auntie

Hello Countdown Crew.
This morning seems to be flying by! Not a good sign.
I had a vaca day yesterday, and it also flew by. I thought I'd be totally caught up on this thread by now (I am on pg 250, though) but had errands to run in town that ended up sucking up my day. I didn't go to the nursing home to visit a former co-worker (well, I went but couldn't visit) because his floor is closed due to illnesses (stomach bug) and I didn't make it to the library. <sigh>
I also ended up working on an album on my MySpace page with pictures of coworkers for a scrapbook retirement gift I'm planning. I posted most of the pictures that will be in the scrapbook on my page in an album titled THE ELVIS PROJECT.
She retires the 28th, and thankfully, the project is almost done. (One of my errands yesterday was going to the kodak phot kiosk and printing up some pics that are going in the album.)
I did have an early birthday lunch with my ex-sis-in-law and ex-brother-in-law and did pick up a couple Christmas dvd's.
We watched one last night. (SHREK THE HALLS) 2yo grand-daughter kept saying "I want to watch it again!" ha ha
I also bought the three grand-daughters that live near me a few small things (gave them one yesterday, though) and got ideas for the three grand-daughters that live downstate........
Our temps here have been mild, which I'm loving. I like it when my furnace isn't running!!!
I hope everyone is having a great weekend.
I'm off to read some more until the grand-daughters wake up!!!!

Good Morning Friends. Hi to sila and christmasgranny.
Sila - about the plaid-tartan-plaid..... have you noticed that this board is one of the few places that actually cherishes plaid? In my daily life -- I almost NEVER see plaid -- except here. Don't you just love all the plaid-itudes on this board!
Good Morning, Friends!
Let's get straight to it:
Days to the Season: 5 (We all know what that means!! Stay tuned!)
Days to Christmas Day: 47
Days to Thanksgiving Day: 19 (Below 20. Really starting to get close, now!)
Rainy and 60 here in Raleigh at this hour.
Should clear up by this afternoon, however, and we might hit 70 before turning cooler for this evening and the next few days.
Have a Stupendous Saturday, Comrades!
I hope your weekend has kicked-off to a great start.

I shall open the 5-day lead-up to the Season with a tale of my earliest memory of Christmas.
It was Christmas Eve in the late 1950's. I was about 5 years old and we were living in Orlando, Florida with no fireplace/chimney.
I can remember being concerned that Santa couldn't get in to make his deliveries. On asking my parents how he would manage it, I was told he uses the front door in houses without chimneys.
Noticing that the door was latched, I asked that it be left unlocked for the night. They complied and I went to bed happy and secure in the knowledge that Santa would not have to pass up our house!
(I have no recollection of the next morning or what I received)
Isn' t this a big part of what Christmas is made of? Our memories.
So much of our childhood is forgotten over the years but I'll bet most everyone can come up with at least one early memory of Christmas!
These happy thoughts help to warm us as we "grow a little older and grow a little colder". They are one of the little angels sitting on our shoulder.
.....And so we arrive at day 5 before the Season.
Merry Christmas, folks!

Good Morning, everyone!
It's great to be back.
Incredible!
We are down to single digits to the season!
I've got my "Day 5 before-the-season" post ready to go for Nov 8.
Recapping:
Day 5 (Nov 8) = Crown
Day 4 (Nov 9) = Binger
Day 3 (Nov 10) = Maureen
Day 2 (Nov 11) = -- OPEN --
Day 1 (Nov 12) = Auntie
Nov 13 = THE SEASON ARRIVES!!
Welcome home Crown!!!
I'm such a big mouth around here that I'm reluctant to sign up but if no one else grabs it, I'd be happy to post the newly available date!
Jay
Welcome back, Crown!
Oh and Jay takes the 11th shift.
Is it possible for me to switch days with Jay? I might be strapped for time on the 12th as I'm heading off for a three-day conference. (Leaving O'Malley and my husband home alone - wonder what mischief they'll get into.)
Can I take the eleventh and Day 2 and you take Day 1 on the 12th?
Have a cuppa yabba java!

In the midst of the holiday season, we cross the Winter Solstice... the longest night of the year and the equinoix where we go from"the dark into the light.." When we awaken on December 22nd, we are hours away from Christmas Eve and the day that we begin looking towards all year. An on line community like this reminds us that in the darkest of hours and when despair seems to grip us, there is light with friends who believe and share in the power of the holidays and the togetherness that exists, not just during the season, but year long.
During my darkest hour, my friends here rallied around me and pulled me up... reminding me that there is a season of light yet to come and the friendships that endure is the real meaning of the season.
And so it has come to this....
Four days until the season....

Days to the Season: 4 (Really, really getting close now, guys!)
Days to Christmas Day: 46
Days to Thanksgiving Day: 18 (I'm starting to taste that delicious stuffing!)
Maureen will be our Day-3-before-the-Season poster tomorrow.

I wandered by the Shispering Pines last night and caught up with Carl the camel. http://i3.tinypic.com/2r243d5.jpg His fur is looking a little wingy. Think he might be experimenting with those blended coffees he makes a bit too much.
He had a few friends over and they were playing a game of Reindeer Hokey Pokey.

I didn't mention that he was indulging in too much coffee though, I thought he might get into a "spitting fit" if I did.

Carl just loves the Christmas Season, Sparkle!
He was born on Christmas Day (or so he claims) and as regular readers know, at Christmas time he switches his 3rd hump over to the finest of eggnogs in celebration. Stop by the Shispering Pines one of these days and try some. (No weird coffee-blends, just good ole' fine drinkin' eggnog!)
For those of you new to Carl, this is the only known photo of him in profile showing his third hump, taken when he was a youngster.

Crown_84 -- Thank you for the photo of Carl as a youngster! He certainly looks younger and a lot more innocent in that photo. Carl must have had quite a life to have earned the expression on his recent photo.
So Carl switches that third hump over to eggnog at Christmastime. Nobody could find fault with his judgement there. But the liquid in the hump is only for Carl, isn't it? I thought Camels stored liquid for their own drinking in those humps. Does he have another supply for guests? I do love eggnog!
Frankly, Carl looks a lot more sophisticated than I am. Are you sure he likes to have visitors just drop by? I am pretty intimidated by Carl.
4,000 posts in 2008 - already - is quite amazing! And the countdown to midnight could be quite festive. Probably a lot more festive than most of the New Years Eve parties we have all attended in years past.

Morning everybody!!
I’ve been thinking long and hard about what I would post for Season Day – 3. Crown has already brought back those warm childhood fuzzies from when we were kids. Binger reminded us that no matter how dark things may be, you always have your friends to turn to.
I’ve taken the easy way out and have chosen to share with you a few quotes from a book we read recently for The Book Cottage entitled “The Autobiography of Santa Claus” as told to Jeff Gunn. They stayed with me long after I finished the book and I hope you get something from them as well
“Always keep December Twenty-fifth special. It works wonders on human hearts and I think more good is accomplished on that day than is done all the rest of the year”
“It’s not the value of the gift, but the philosophy of the giving and receiving. It’s a hard world, all in all, and to receive a present means someone else cares for you, that you’re not alone”
“The most important thing is that people are being happy together. For at least one day of the year, quarrels are forgotten and strangers are greeted as friends”
We not only have the day, but the season and, indeed, for some, a whole year. We not only have our physical friends but our virtual ones as well. We are more blessed than many.
Merry Christmas to all!!!

Oh, fear not! Carl is very friendly and as you know, he is now the activities director at the Shispering Pines where he likes to give camel rides to the kids. (And with 3 humps, he can safely take 2 at a time!)
During the non-holiday season, he also gives one free cup of coffee from his third hump to all guests.
Carl has visited a number of our members over the years, but if you decide to host him sometime beware! He's very sensitive and a bit narcissistic. Above all, don't ever use words like "imaginary" around him, or he will become quite upset and fade like Samantha's shy aunt on Bewitched!

Actually, last year I was under the weather and was able to work from home. We'll see how that plays out this year.
Other then that, another week begins.....getting closer to that 6 week mark.
Cheers!!

:hello:
Wonderful post, Maureen, and an excelllent choice of quotes.
Good Morning, Friends!
Cold here, with our temp at 41.
It's sunny, but with a slight breeze. No rain in the forecast.
Let's in check on our dwindling count:
Days to the Season: 3 (My, oh my! Getting so very, very close!)
Days to Christmas Day: 45
Days to Thanksgiving Day: 17 (Under a week and a half, now!)
I want to try to get out and photograph the new outdoor Christmas Tree at the mall this evening. I have a daytime view and want to post both versions together in the Christmas Blossoms thread.
Have a Marvelous Monday, everybody - the begining of the week that brings us into the Season at last!

Crown_84 -- Thank you so much for telling me and all the other newish people --- some of the fascinating facts about Carl.
You mentioned that Carl serves eggnog (homemade by Carl!) I heard on the news yesterday that 500,000 Americans drink unpasteurized milk - directly from the cow. Believing that pasteurization destroys some of the important health properties of milk directly from the animal. So - nothing to worry about with eggnog from Carl.
I picked up a carton of eggnog, today in the grocery store. I do not want to ever again see the number of calories in 1/2 cup of eggnog. I didn't buy that carton. I am going to wait for Carl. Or - at least until there are a lot of people around who will want some of that eggnog - so I don't drink it all immediately by myself!

:tree:
Great post Maureen! I read that book a couple of years ago and it is a great book! It's definitely one to read more than once!
And yes, we are truly blessed with this wonderful online community!

Good morning, everyone.
We got some snow last night. Just enough to cover the ground, nothing to get excited over, but yet, enough that the dog wouldn't go out.
Some friends treated me to dinner and ice cream cake at Friendley's last night for my birthday. (It's not quite my birthday yet.)
I received a friend request from someone, but my computer seems to be misbehaving this am and I cannot view it. Whomever/whoever you are, please be patient with me and I'll restart this thing and come back tonight after work and accept. :?
I'm getting close to 100 posts. I think by the end of the day, I can manage to post 7 more to hit 100!!! My, it's the little things that make me happy. LOL
Yesterday I got to work, and my telephone was shrink wrapped. "Good morning" was written on it. I found out who the pertetrator was and put tape over the mouthpiece of his phone so that when he spoke into it, the person couldn't hear him. I told him we are now even. He said "You think so huh?" ha ha
What will I find when I get to work this morning?????

Isn't that two weeks and a half to your Thanksgiving??.....
Ah, Mac. Right you are! A typo crept in. Should have read "Under 2 1/2 weeks". (Perhaps a bit of wishful thinking on my part.....or maybe not enough sleep.....or too many coffee fumes drifting down from SE Virginia.....who knows?)
Good Morning, great Friends of Christmas!
It's another chiller outside here in Raleigh at this hour with our temp standing at 38. Again, I am grateful it is sunny and calm - none of that dreaded "wind chill"!
Rain is possible in a day or two.
On with the count, as the hour grows late in our wonderful journey:
Days to the Season: 2 (Ever so close - I can almost reach out and touch it!)
Days to Christmas Day: 44
Days to Thanksgiving Day: 16 (Getting down close to 2 weeks)
I got a nice photo of the outdoor Christmas Tree at the mall last evening, but now I can't find the day photo! Must have accidentally deleted it. Will have to replace it, then post both in Christmas Blossoms.
Have a Terrific Tuesday, everyone!

It's also Rememberance Day in Britain and Canada today as well. In London, the 3 remaining soldiers from WW1 (one of whom is 112) were honoured along with more recently serving.
All over the world, people remember and value the sacrifices made on our behalf
