Hey guys!!! It's the greatest night of the week!!!! FRIDAY!!!!!!! :D (Better late than never, right??)
Was a busy day! We had 2 guys here today working on our roof...we found a spot where the wood was rotting out under the shingles...we just re-roofed our house about 8 years ago, so that shouldn't be happening!!! After work my hubby went mushroom hunting (no luck) & then fishing & now - even though it's almost 10:00 - we are getting ready to walk over to the neighbors for their graduation party! We'll show our faces for awhile & send our wishes....will probably be a late night!! Ah well... Sunday we have 3 graduation parties & I get to go to the commencements Sun. afternoon b/c my Goddaughter is graduating! Another busy day!! But tomorrow we have NO PLANS except for going to the lake & relaxing!!!
Have a great night!!!!

 I slept through the halfway point. Uggh, what's happening to me.
Excuse me whilst I check for pods in the closet.
Nope. It's me.
Guess I was just enjoying my slumper a wee bit too much. Those beds at the Shispering Pines are great for inducing sleep.
Yes, I said slumper. It's a deeper sleep than you can imagine.
Well - deeper than some of you can imagine.
A little something for y'all ...

...I'm so bummed today!! I really miss Christmas. It's like a really good old friend who you wish would come around more..but he just doens't have the chance to....
Ah! But bear in mind we are closer to the start of Christmas Season 2008 than we are past the start of Season 2007!
Currently, our count stands at:
Days to the Season: 180
Days to Christmas Day: 222
(As opposed to Transylvania's count who stands for sucking blood, our resident bean counter who stands for sucking coffee and our resident day counter who rarely stands at all)
A bright, yet somewhat chilly, 55 here in Raleigh at this hour.
We should have highs in the 70's for the next few days.
The humidity is coming up a bit but still not bad by May standards for the south.
Well, I hope everyone's weekend is off to the greatest of starts!
Have a Stupendous Saturday, one and all.

Morning, Christmas Peoples!! I'm THAAAAT close (picture index finger and thumb measuring something) to throwing caution to the wind - and money to Amazon - and buying A Charlie Brown Christmas. I figured it'll be more available in May than in October. It's not on TV here so have to get my fix somehow!!!
The dogs are fed and watered. The son is studying (and I use the term loosely) for his Math exam on Tuesday (he's on his own for Math; French I can help with, n'est pas?) That said, think I can hear low muttering on the phone and plants are getting watered (another successful stalling technique!)
I shall advance into the kitchen and take no prisoners with a grilled cheese sandwich. That's how I feel and make no apologies!!!!!!!!
Later!!!!!!

It's a long weekend here in Canada. Victoria Day is this Monday.
That calls for listening to some festive Christmas music or watching a Christmas video.
Wonder if O'Malley will join me, my husband will likely hide in front of the Sports. What's that sound? Tennis fans cheering. Hmmm. Think I hear opportunity knocking on the bedroom TV.

I hear a woodpecker, but I can't see it out the window. Think he's tapping in code that Christmas is on the way.

We had turkey burgers and coleslaw for dinner. Not as thrilling as Mamma's dinner.

Hi everyone! Had a nice Saturday here. The weather was great for Larissa's bicycle rode. She got a free..helmet, free lunch, learned the safety of bicylcling. And I had forgotten but she had drawn a picture when I had signed her up and she won 3rd place. She got 4 vouchers for the local fountain here for milkshakes. She had a blast. The weather was so nice today I broke down and bought some flowers to plant. Tomorrow is suppose to be even nicer. I plan to attach a couple pics. here of some of my flowers I planted and if you want to see more I plan to add them to my album. Feel free to check em' out!

Good Morning.
It's a Super Sunny Sunday here in Raleigh, friends.
The temp stands at 68 with the high predicted to be in the upper 70's.

Instead of yadda-yadda "joining together in friendship and in love" there was a misprint and it read, "in fiendship and in love" - kind of sounded contradictory to my way of thinking so I made them change it before I mailed them out.

I'm actually surprised that there aren't more injuries and deaths. I still remember all the attention on Barbaro.

As such, a flexible volunteer for the countdown is needed - one who can definitely post for Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings with the possible need to cover Tuesday and Wednesday as well.
Is there any soul out there who can shoulder this difficult burden?
I am looking for a few good men or women or gender neutral personnel. (Well, actually only one)

I'm not going to get much lake time this weekend! :( I am in my friends wedding on Friday, Saturday I am helping my sister chop veggies for soup & making fettuccini alfredo for 150 people (we are bringing our big cast iron kettle to my sisters house & making 20 gallon of Italian Vegetable Soup for my nieces graduation party ~ also a big roaster of alfredo) ~ my niece is having an italian food theme for her party! I am also making a large pot of crock pot pizza sometime on Saturday. Sunday is the party....BUT Saturday afternoon & Monday you'll find me at the lake baby, soaking up some rays!!! (I really need a few days of soaking up the rays BEFORE the wedding...my friends sisters who are also in the wedding are so tan!! Ah well....I'm going to fake bake today, tomorrow & Thursday...I don't like to do it, but I don't want to be the albino one in the pictures!

Another chilly one here in Raleigh with the temp standing at only 58. Unusually cool for late May around these parts.
This has been the coolest May I can recall in recent years. With the low humidity, it has also been among the most comfortable!

Well Cedar your steak sounds better than my baby back ribs but I'll just have to settle for my ribs, you live to far away and I think if you mailed one to me it wouldnt make it here. hee hee.
Well, the eye surgery and one shoulder surgery is a thing of the past and the therapy went well. I am busy working in my yard as much as I can but have to take it easy with arm so its slow going. The other are will just have to wait for when I don't have so much to do.
I planted a bunch of plants yesterday and got sent running to my house as it started lightening and thundering then kaboom we had hail and then a cloud burst. Boy what a day. But we always say its Oregon and if you don't like the weather wait a minute and it will change but didnt expect 2 inches of rain in 20 minutes, boy glad I have these web feet.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I haven't forgotten you and I am back just not every day. To much gardening and all for right now.

There is a full explanation on the first page of this thread but in a nutshell, we all have agreed that a countdown to the Christmas season rather than just to Christmas gives us each more time to enjoy Christmas as well as giving us a boost after the season ends because we are not 365 days away from the next Christmas celebration...By the way, welcome!!!

No kidding!! I was thinking last night how normally in May when the cotton starts flying off the trees, we shut our windows at night & turn on the AC so that my hubby can breathe (spring time allergies) ~ well the cotton is starting to fly, but we are shutting our windows by about 7 PM b/c the WIND is getting so darn chilly & we have to turn on the furnace!!! Geesh! What a wierd May!!

DANGER, WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!
The Wizard of Crowndom has returned.
(I finally figured out how that balloon works!)
And I indeed picked an excellent substitute counter!
Thanks again, Dom!
Things are well at the cottage with one notable exception!
An animal of some sort (we think it's a possum) got into the AC ducting and died there. The odor is......well.....being a Christian person, I won't say it.
Regardless, some ducting has to be cleaned and/or replaced.
I only hope we can get it done before our first renters arrive on June 1.
Well, tomorrow promises to be a busy day, so I will get a jump start on Wednesday by posting the count now since I will likely have no time to get here tomorrow morning:
Days to the Season: 169
Days to Christmas Day: 211
My, My, My! Just look how fast that 200-Day Christmas Day window is approaching! Nothing like being away for a few days to see how far the count has moved!

~Presenting, 'Opossum'...Odor De Jour! Hi Crown!~ Boy, nothing can ruin a family vacation more than a decaying animal rotting somewhere in the house. Same thing happened to my family when we went to our rented lakeside cabin and a squirrel died under the screened-in porch. We spent ALOT of time on the dock!! It's incredible how a powerful strong stench can come from such a small critter like a mouse or a squirrel. Don't EVEN want to think of what a opossum could do....P. U.!!!! Rain, rain, rain wish it would go a way for a little while. Trouble is when it does go away then we cry for it to come back. Guess there is no way mother nature can win.
Boy I am looking foreward to Christmas this year. I have been going to yard sales looking for new ideas but none as of yet. Its early in the year for very many sales right now but Im looking. I have a few new ideas and have got to get my saw and paints going. Then when the lights come out I have to buy a bunch of them. If all goes well I will try to post pictures.
I worked out in my yard today and got soaked to the bone. Luckily it was a warm rain, I did get behind my large pond all weeded and planted now for the bark mulch.

Sorry Jayster, but the famous teamster leader is part of Michigan's Freeway system...somewhere..west of metro Detroit. Jimmy Hoffa was LAST seen coming out of a restaurant in Bloomfield Hills..with mobsters Tony "Jack" Giacalone and Tony "Pro" Provenzano. (are they all called Tony?) Never seen alive again. Rest is cement history! Supposed to be embedded in the U.A.W. Freeway which was being built around that time he disappeared, 1976. ~Don't mess with the Michigan Maffia!

Jayster, recently...oh about a year ago I think,..some mob guy stuck in prison spilled his so-called knowledge of Jimmy Hoffa. He said he had information about the teamster leader being buried in a horse farm in Bloomfield, Michigan. They bulldozed the ENTIRE 20 acres trying to find the remains and they totally failed. I remember watching that on the news for about 3 days...Somehow, we all knew it wouldn't turn up anything CONCRETE!

Another busy one for me this last week. Love to be busy though.
My husband and I had another big chat about my Christmas enthusiasms, he said "when we win the lottery, will you go back to school to finish your dream?"
I said, "nope. I'm going to publish my books first and then I'm off to Santa College." He said, "no way - there's no Santa school", I said, "yes there is".
He was talking about a degree in Child's psychology, but that's his dream for me not mine, I'd rather travel around the world telling my "think stories" in person than working with a few children at a time.

Oh, Carl's back with a new coffee blend alright, Auntie (some kind of a coffee-grape combo I'm afraid to ask about, let alone try) but the big news is that he was on a secret deployment by the military to do undercover work in Saudi Arabia!
With his special, er, "talents", he was a natural spy!
While he cannot reveal specifics (doesn't want to blow his cover) he was able to learn some interesting classified info while masquerading as a simple pack camel.
More news! On his return to the States, where did our friend take up residence but at the Shispering Pines! He's been incognito there for the past few weeks, taking it easy, dispensing coffee via his third hump, and eating fired twinkies like they are going out of style.
All this provided free by our grateful government.

That's cool, Auntie! My Mom used to sing that tune to me way back when! Wonder how many versions of Ragg Mopp were recorded? Crown will, no doubt, be familiar with the Jimmy Dorsey/Dorseyland Jazz Band version. Of the one's I've heard the Treniers version comes in second to the Lional Hampton Orchastra's rendition. Joe Liggins & His Honeydrppers gets an honorable mention as well. There were even a few "white guy" versions including Bing's brother Bob Crosby's. He should have passed. Thank God Bing did! Or did he?

He was a little bitter...Old Bo...About the money he never got paid...But he kept on playing...Up until the stroke and heart attack last year...

Oh man, Bo Diddley died!
Ellas McDaniel, aka Bo Diddley, received his first guitar in 1940 at the age of twelve as a Christmas gift from his sister.

Yup, was a sad day when Bo died. Kind of like an end of and era.
Singers now a days either sing so loud you cant understand them or just dont care about how they sing. I still listen to the oldies or country.

To me, they either scream, wail or both.
I also generally only play the oldies (and I mean REAL oldies, like Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw)
Good Morning.

Good Morning Friends....alittle late but I'm here!
I just got back from a breakfast at a small town eatery north of me. My friend and I chose the NON-SMOKING section.... I knew I was in trouble when I got ushered past the row of booths and every single one of them had a cigarette in hand. Coughing, hacking, smoking, coughing, hacking, smoking. One person was hooked to an Oxygen machine and was smoking still! We sat down and ordered and I watched the cigarette smoke waft into the non-smoking section like a snake...by the time we got served our food, any appetite was lost and it felt like I had smoked a half-pack. When I got outside, my shirt...well, ALL of my clothes stunk and my hair smelled awful!! Never again I cry, never again!!
Sorry friends, I just had to tell somebody....:rudolph:COUGH!! Gag...
Can't wait for another wonderful opera from our Bingster!

Good morning!! WELCOME BACK MAMMADUKE!! We missed you around here!! So glad to see your back! :hello:
It's a dreary ol day today...calling for strong storms this afternoon! I just started on another afghan for my friends for a house warming gift, which means I am in the middle of 3 afghans right now. What am I thinking??? Lol!!
Since Ohio passed the "no smoking" ban we don't have many smokey restaurants anymore...not all places enforce the law, but for the most part, there's no smoking in bars/restaurants anymore. It's amazing how much I notice smoke now...when it was legal I guess I was just use to it & never paid attention...now I walk into a bar/restaurant where there is smoke, & it's like "OH YUCK!!!"
Have a great Tuesday!!!

"We found out Whispering Pines of Chappaqua -- the local flower shop -- has been delivering a bunch of arrangements to the Clinton house -- some for Hil, some for Bill and some for both.
So why do people send flowers? A wedding -- no. Funeral -- sort of. The end of a Presidential campaign -- bingo."
Found this happy little quote on TMZ...I have no opinion on the political aspect of the article but rather the name of the florist intrigued me...So just think...Right now, Hil and Bill are dining on fired twinkies surrounded by flowers from the shispering pines...We're almost world famous folks!!!:snowball:

You are so funny Jay, Yes the end of her campaign is coming. Now we'll never get near shispering pines if they find out where the flowers came from. We'll have to make sure they don't take over the pines."We found out Whispering Pines of Chappaqua -- the local flower shop -- has been delivering a bunch of arrangements to the Clinton house -- some for Hil, some for Bill and some for both.

Genuine question from across the water......
What is the consensus of opinion regarding Obama and Hillary? Is the US ready to accept a woman or Afro-American president?? Are they likely to get to the White House at all?? Are the States ready for a change in government??
I'm genuinely interested. I'm not trying to open a political debate (never discuss religion or politics!!) Just nosey - please remove if too controversial!!!

It seems to me that the general consensus is, we need a drastic change. I personally don't think that our president has done as bad a job as folks like to say but I'm in the minority...I don't know enough about Clinton or Obama to make an educated statement but I think each has a chance. I do think that experience should play a part in which candidate is chosen during these somewhat turbulent times in the USA...

I agree with Jay. Bush, while far from perfect, has been unfairly treated by the news media.
But to directly answer your question, Maureen: Yes, I do feel the country is ready to accept a woman or African-American president.
I have been around for over half a century now and have seen changes I could not have imagined as a child.
But one thing I have not seen change - most people continue to vote their pocketbooks - whichever candidate they feel will do the most for them and their economic situation.

Lord, yes.
I would rather drink a gallon of coffee than sit through a rock concert at full volume.

I love most kinds of music...Oldies, classic rock, pop, country, easy listening, new age...I just can get my brain around hip-hop and rap...I think it's because I don't understand it though...It's what's driving the record business now...They are the big selling albums...While I love a good orchestra as much as anything, there is nothing like standing in an arena and seeing Bruce Springsteen sing "Born to Run"...I just love all of it...I've said it before...One weekend in the eighties I saw Judas Priest on Friday night and Pavarotti on Sunday night...Pavarotti was much better...
