Well, in case nobody here at ClausNET.com noticed, I'm in Mardi Gras mode. More specifically, I'm scanning the files of the New Orleans Times-Picayune and its NOLA.com (http://www.nola.com) site. Why? Because I'm into Mardi Gras Royalty. During the off-season, I often challenge my artistic capabilities by drawing pictures of Kings and Queens in full royal regalia. I also scan the various search engines' image sections for Royal Portraits that can spark my imagination.

Needless to say, I was lucky enough to grow up on Faerie Tales when I was little; and believe me when I tell you that the best Mardi Gras celebration of them was the time when Rex, King of Carnival (http://www.rexorganization.com) for all of New Orleans was a local businessman named Louis Frierson, and his Queen was a lovely young socialite named Mary Louise "Marley" Eastman. The year, I think, was 1995; and I think the royal day was presented nationally by the Travel Channel --- the Travel Channel before the Discovery Communications people bought it --- and the local Fox affiliate in New Orleans, WVUE.

But sadly, times change; and, post-Katrina, the Mardi Gras I knew of old isn't around on a national basis anymore. Suffice it to say, economics, time and patience took their toll. I'll leave you to imagine the rest for yourselves. The point is, the magic of the Kings and Queens of Mardi Gras (http://www.nola.com/mardigras/) still enchants me! If some of our ClausNET.com members are on their way to New Orleans to experience Mardi Gras, I hope that same magic enchants them, too.
