I have been kicking around an idea that I want to do for our kids this year and I could really use some opinions please.
Dh and I have discussed getting our kids new PJs for Christmas Eve but we did not want them to come from us. We also want to try to the Magic Elves and have visit with us from Dec 1st until Christmas Eve. So this is what I came up with:
Come Christmas our kids will be (ds)2 y.o. and (dd) 7 y.o. They will each have a small Christmas tree in their room. I want them to wake up on Christmas Eve morning to find a wrapped gift (the PJs) and a small stocking filled with little gifts along with a note from the Elves saying that they had to go back to the North Pole to make sure Santa got their wish list but have left them an early christmas present.
I always end up buying way more stocking stuffers then what will fit into their actual stocking. So I was either going to make a couple small stockings or just buy them and fill them with the over flow. I was also thinking about maybe buying them each a new Christmas movie to put in their stocking that they can watch that day.
We are planning a nice quite day home on Christmas Eve with just us since Christmas day is very busy for us as we host christmas breakfest and dinner for both sides of the family. I felt that this would spread the Christmas Magic out a little more.
Dh is still on the fence on this but when it comes to Christmas he always lets me plan and do what I want to anyway. What do you guys think?

:tree:I think that is a wonderful idea. I am sure your kids will love it. This will be my first year doing the Magic Elves for my kids ds6 and dd3. I am very excited to do this. I already have the elves and have planned out all their mischief for the month of Dec. I hope my kids have as much fun with it as I am. I also plan for the elves to leave new pj's Christmas Eve. I plan on the elves leaving Chirstmas Eve ( telling the kids they need to go back with Santa). I love your idea for the elves to leave Christmas Eve morning to make sure Santa gets their wish list. Hope you have as much fun with this as I am.

That's a terrific idea. I have always given our boys and our nieces Christmas pajamas on Christmas eve, but not in any special way. I always wanted to make sure that they had on nice pjs for all those early morning photos.

Go for it! I am sure your kids will love it.
I like to try different things every year too, but this year will be a real challenge as it looks like both me and my "kids" will all be off to college in different cities. I am thinking of some kind of mailing thing or finding someone near the school I know that would be willing to drop off a surprise or two before they come home for Christmas.

Earlier this week my husband and I were at Walmart and he found a pair of christmas themed PJs for our daughter in the correct size for $5. We went over into the toddler section and found a cute flannel 2 piece PJ set for our son for $5. So now we have their Christmas Eve PJs. I was so happy to cross them off my shopping list. Now I just need to find the elves without breaking the bank.

How about a Christmas ornament for their tree(s) and a family ornament. That way when they move out when older, they will have Christmas ornaments that will be cherished and remembered.

They have several now. As soon as the ornaments are out we take the shopping for their new ornament, they get to pick what they want and I mark the year on them. However I am doing that idea for one neice and a soon to be neice. Great minds think a like!

Guess I missed this earlier...but here are a couple suggestions...
Flea markets or resale shops...I found three adorable elves for a dollar at the flea marker
Ornament aisle: look in the ornaments section...sometimes they have small stuffed elves that are suppose to be for ornaments but work equally well as Magic Elves.

I think these are all wonderful ideas! Ive always given my kids Pj's on christmas eve, but they are from me. They look forward to getting to open two gifts on christmas eve, one is pj's and the other is a small gift.
I love the idea of having trees in their rooms!

Minta,
Our family tradition is to open one gift on Christmas Eve and it is always PJ's (so the pictures look decent). I love the elf idea though.. such a cute idea (my DS is 12 now.. so I can't do this fun stuff.. well I can and then he'll just roll his eyes at me)..
I digress.. I was at TJ MAXX last night and they had some cute "elf like" collectibles and they were pretty reasonable $3-$10 range (depending on size) so I wanted to suggest maybe looking in places like that too...
Keep us posted!
PS.. good luck with the house sale and moving...:))

It's a wonderful idea! My parents would have a neighbor ring our doorbell and my Mom would present us with p.j.s from Santa's elves on Christmas Eve. I carried on that tradition with my own children and now grandchildren.

That sounds fantastic!!! I think it's a great way to spread out the magic of Christmas and I know when I was a kid I would have absolutely loved something like that!!!

I found a couple really cutes elves on line, a boy and a girl so we are going to order both since we have a son and a daughter. This way they will have their own elf. We already have their PJ's. This is going to be so fun, I can not wait.

What a great idea! Also, what a great way to start a cool tradition with your children. I have 2 small Goddaughters (twins, age 4) that I started the magic reindeer dust with on Christmas eve. They have already begun asking for about it for this year!!! I love the idea of the trees in their room. :snowball:
