Ok, so you've set up your own group -- now what?
First thing you need to do is to get more members. Be sure to go to the Group Registry section often and set up a thread to promote your group.
Promoting your group doesn't just mean inviting people to come join it. You should update that thread from time to time with news and announcements about your group.
Once you have FIVE members, you can "create a forum" -- an area of discussion just like any other here on MMC -- where your group can meet. Once your forum is up and active, your memberships will improve because your group will be more visible.
Don't forget to use the calendar functions here on the forums. For example, if your groups puts together a chat to discuss live something pertaining to your group, you should schedule it on the calendar.
If your group is big enough and has a broad-based event with the right appeal, I might be convinced to promote your group functions via the Merry News -- our emailed newsletter that has a subscriber base of more than 25,000 people who have registered via one of the Merry Network websites.
Groups are NOT for everyone. But for someone with leadership skills and a specialized interest it is a great way to make use of the forums.
