Please join us in testing a new theme here for the Merry Forums. This brighter color scheme more closely matches My Merry Christmas and we think it will be easier to read.
I welcome your comments, feedback, ideas and suggestions.
What happened to the old theme? Nothing, we've still got it. We're putting it into the shop for the next couple of weeks to make it faster and to bring back the falling snow to it. Once we get those tweaks done, we'll make it so that every user can choose whichever theme they like best.
But for now, enjoy the new theme and post your comments!

The new board is looking great. It'll be a tough choice between this and the falling snow though.

Well, the falling snow is mood booster, for sure, but it comes at a price -- it takes a lot of processor power and it can make reading the boards a little slow.
I'm liking this new look the more I play with it.

This is so nice; I feel like a fat boy in a donut shop! I think this works better for the summer season, too. The darker colors work nicely in the fall and winter. Jeff, does a program exist that will create snowfall over whatever program you are in (word processor, internet, etc.) and not just as a screensaver? If we could run that, we could have falling snow at our expense and not yours.

That technology does not exist, to my knowledge. Just have to scratch your head a lot, I guess.

This is buggy and slow in Firefox. Just thought you'd like to know.

Ed...yeah, I know...why do you use that piece of junk browser? The problem here is that our site logs show more than 90% usage of IE browsers.
That's not the best browser, I know, but that's what the world is using. The thing is we can't seem to design something yet that works perfectly for both...but we're working on it.
What are you seeing?

Well, the banner and the countdown clock at the top are all whacked out.
And don't call me Ed.

Ok, we'll look at it...Ed.

I've been working on it Firefox and it's looking better. Gotta tell you though, FF is a freakin' SLOW browser...I don't care which site you're on. It even makes me wait on Yahoo and Google and that's crazy.

I use Firefox mostly but I also have road runner cable and not dial up. I have no problem with Firefox being slow in my area. I do prefer Explorer but get so much trash attachments left behind which Firefox does not do. So this is why I stick with Firefox. Could "fast" and "slow" have more to do with cable or dial-up?

Oh, I'm on cable too -- have been for years and I don't think I could ever do dial up again.
I'm using Maxthon, which is built on the IE engine but has a lot of the features of FF. Between it and my Trend Micro anti-virus, I'm able to keep most malicious stuff at bay. Quite honestly, I've learned that if I stay on sites I should be on and away from fringe topics such as extreme sports, gaming, gambling, etc then I don't have a problem no matter which browser I use.
I also watch our site logs closely. While all these other browsers are great -- most even better than IE -- it is an IE world, no matter how we slice it.

Will check out Maxthon...

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y273/AuntieMistletoe/MarieAristocats.gif I'm enjoying the new look.
I like the candy cane trim, if it was spinning it would remind me of a Barber's Pole. I also like the idea of having a choice of screens to use.
I'm not using FireFox so I'm not sure about those problems; I hope it won't stop members from enjoying the forums.
 When my cat was a kitten, he used to try and catch the snowflakes.
He's 16 ½ pounds now, I like the fact he's not pouncing at the screen.

You can comply til you're blue in the face with w3's standards but I don't care how you slice it your sites will never look the same in all the varied browsers out there. You HAVE to think IE first or you'll never survive. Yes, FF and others have made inroads but 90% of all users are still using IE and if I have to make a design choice that favors one over the other I'll choose IE every time.
Firefox has never bothered with design esthetics. Never has, never will. Firefox came on with a big advantage in security over IE but for pratical purposes of just viewing it offers a webmaster several disadvantages. It's clunky. I'm yet to see it display a vBulletin site right or even a phpBB, and these are the most common (and compliant, I might add) sites online. It also shreds common portal sites such as Nuke and it makes using eCommerce applications such as OS Commerce and even Amazon difficult. Who needs that?
Firefox is making a living out of being anti-Microsoft. Sooner or later they need to be pro-user and render sites faster and more to design standards.
Jeff <-- there, I feel better having got my FF rant out of the way
ps -- Actually, it's not my Christmas sites I'm irritated about most with FF. It's my baseball sites and the fact that I cannot read online banking sites with FF either. :-x

Spose to be on both sites..Yahoo just adds their toolbar which you can turn off. The MS site was swamped today so I gave the Yahoo link
