Okay since I know how we can dilly dally around with hundreds of book suggestions and no one making a decision...LOL....I decided to propose a book group to read: A Christmas Guest by Anne Perry

This book is one of the whole Christmas novels she writes and although I have never read any of them I looked over at amazon and they seem to have some good reviews. I am suggesting we just jump right in with this one even though it is not the first in the series....partly because it seems readily available and partly because I like the description of the cranky grandma that become more likeable in this novel. Check out the book and its reviews: HERE (http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Guest-Novel-Anne-Perry/dp/0345483804/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213066125&sr=1-1) I am assuming it may be available in local libraires too....haven't had a chance to check mine yet....or perhaps used book stores.

I am proposing a start date of: July 6th...that should give us plenty of time to get our hands on the book. We will read a certain number of pages per week and discuss the story line and characters....if you read ahead...that's fine but don't spoil anything for us!!! LOL

If you have already read the book....a reread might be in order....at times I discover new things in a reread. Let me know what you think and if you will be joining the book group

All sorted - that's my book ordered off Amazon too. Mine was SLIGHTLY more expensive at 72p (roughly $1.50) plus postage!!

Next time, do you think you could pick a cheaper novel???!!!!

From one of the reviews at amazon:

"If there is one character in Anne Perry's Pitt & Charlotte books whom no one likes, it's Grandmama Ellison. She has a brutal tongue and a mean streak a yard wide."

This intrigues me...but having not read the earlier books I have no idea how the Grandma character is protrayed...should be interesting to see how they make a character like this take on a better image,!!!!

I'm going to hit the used book store on Saturday. I hope they have it, because I hate to pay shipping on stuff.

Welcome everyone...this is going to be fun...now just to remember to get the book from the library...LOL...we will be on vacation for the week of June 22nd...so I'll have to hop into the library quickly after we get back.

I have never read a book by Anne Perry but like I said the reviews seem pretty good.

I just picked up my copy at the local used book store. I almost ordered it on Amazon for 19 cents, but the shipping would have been $6.99. I found it at the used book store for $5.50, so I feel that I got the better deal.

I also bought "A Christmas Beginning" by the same author. I figure, I'll be ahead of the game if we choose that one to read later.

I can't wait to start READING and chatting.

Okay....here's how we will start....you people that already have the book...STOP right now and close it...LOL

On July 6th we will start reading. I will put up the pages for that week when I start the Week of July 6th Thread.... And every Friday we will post comments, etc and discuss the portion we have read. You may read ahead...but no spoiling it for the rest of us...LOL.

Some things to think about as you read....

How does the author weave the tale...using conversation, setting etc
(I know it sounds like school....but these are just ideas to give us stuff to talk about)

What characters do you like...dislike...

Any predictions for what's to come?

I'll post these again with the weekly thread....I have two books that I have to read so I can return them to the library and get this one....I'm getting excited...this will be fun!!!

I want to be in on the Book Cottage. Do I "join" separately or do I just chime in? I, too, ordered the book online and almost had to take out a loan to get it--a whopping 57 cents for the book itself plus $3.99 for shipping!! TeHe! But then I go and add to that order and got the Holiday Yahtzee and Halloween Yahtzee for my classroom. I love those games! I am glad we won't start until July. I am teaching summer school which started Monday and I am beyond tired this week. I have hardly had time to check the forums, let alone read for pleasure. So starting in July will allow me to get ready!!

Seawaters....I checked...you are already a Member of the Book Cottage....I might have sent you an invite and then you just clicked to join or ?

To join social groups you go to the group page and scroll down and it will say..."join this group" and you click to join....but you are already in here,.....so you are good to go....

Anyone can join the Book Cottage and anyone can join the Christmas Guest reading group....if you do not join you can still read the book and read everyone's comments....you just won't be able to put your two cents worth in....and we wouldn't want that....there's still plenty of time to get your book...from amazon or the library....I'm glad the book is available and inexpensive....don't want this adventure to be costly for anyone!!

I'm hearing this is a pretty quick read so...we will play it by ear as far as how long we want to spend on it...in the meantime I will be researching other options for our next read....throw some ideas my way if you'd like!!
