I received an email from a site user who saw this article from The Atlantic asking Why are Christmas Sites So Weird?

My Merry Christmas is mentioned in the article but they didn't say anything about us other than to mock our toll free number, 877-Net-Xmas. (I had no idea that was weird).

Are we weird?

You know what I think is weird? I think a publication that makes a blanket statement and then doesn't back it up is weird.

I think it is weird that they would write an article with links and everything and then make no effort whatsoever to contact the people who run those weird websites.

They think it is weird that we all have a countdown to Christmas feature on the site.

What's so weird about that?

If they knew anything about people who love Christmas they'd know that is a vital feature to the website. People love to countdown to Christmas.

What's so weird about that?

Christmas, after all, is unlike any other holiday. It is broad -- and deep. It speaks to different people on different levels in so many different ways. Everyone has a connection to Christmas.

And that truth makes us weird?

If you get to the end of the article you see what all the weird is about. The dude has to quote semi-funny man David Sedaris.

Ah, I see. A cynic. A grumbler who spouts off in the name of bitter humor.

Talk about weird.

If we at MMC are weird, then I say weird is the right thing to be.

This guy is a Senior editor and he couldn't find any "serious knowledge" on MMC?

We are no weirder than fantasy football site members, cartoon lovers, you can find anything weird and it will be someones favorite thing. What truly is weird, is this guy basically pulled a "judge a book by its cover" thing by what looks like, by doing vague judgments on the websites. I for one will do the same, I will not read "The Atlantic" because I think it is weird.
