This is my time of year for making tweaks and additions to My Merry Christmas. It amazes me that after nearly ten years operating this web domain we still have so much of Christmas we haven't covered.

Just to give you a little history, My Merry Christmas as a site was established in October 1999. We existed offline and on other web domains dating back to 1991. Can you believe that next year we get to celebrate 10 years as MMC?

I am a writer at heart and I love Christmas so it is no wonder we ended up doing this.

I don't have trained technical expertise in website programming and, honestly, I lose money on this endeavor as a whole every year.

Over the years I have looked at this as my hobby -- a labor of love, if you will. As I have learned more about the Internet and as our community here has grown I've decided that some day I want to retire into doing this full-time, year round.

But only after the babies are grown and on their own.

Quite frankly, my head is awash in ideas of what I want to do. There simply hasn't been nor will there be time to do everything I really want to do -- not for a long, long while. is fun to look back and see how far we've come. What began as a hair-pulling exercise in frustration ten years ago just to get black links on a white page has turned into THIS.

And how cool is that?

So for every moment I feel depressed by the lack of forward movement in the vision I have for MMC I look back and see how far we have come.

And that's exciting.

So while it is not everything I want it to be now I can see that we will eventually "get there" -- wherever "there" is.

Over the course of the past week we have introduced a ton of great features. It has been a little like Christmas morning watching some of our users discover them.

Later on today and this week we're going to roll out some more new features.

It will take some time for all of us to understand them.

They won't fundamentally change the forums nor our relationships.

But they will enhance our experience here and, I believe, take these forums to a whole new level. It will be exciting and fun.

I am in the process of tweaking some of these features still. There will be lengthy explanations and tutorials to come.

But recognize that all of these are merely the foundation for something far bigger --

And that would be the elevated, improved, turbo-charged and more spectacular celebration of Christmas as only we -- as a community, not as a website -- can make it here at My Merry Christmas.

Fasten your seatbelts. It ought to be a fun ride.
