A Long Winter's Nap, Kinda

Jeff, Welcome back. I, we all missed you so much. I hope you are well and that things will stay settled down for you and your family. I started a group while you were gone ! I don't know. I am not very good at running things so we will see. If you want to join by any chance, the group is called Christmas Pet-Purr-E and it is just what it sounds like.

Hopefully you will be able to enjoy that dull roar you spoke of !

Take care xo

Our Ghost of Christmas Present

How wonderful that you have such an amazing friend like John, Jeff. That is how I feel about my friends Paul and Susan. What a wonderful story and what an amazing friend.

Merry Christmas, Grandma

Jeff, so very sorry for your loss. Grandma sounds like an amazing person. So loving and kind. I know you have all been expecting this for a while but as you say it is never easy. I will keep you all, especially Sandy in my prayers.

Love and Loss at Christmas

I do understand about a sense of loss and the Christmas season. In fact, one of the songs that I wrote, The Remembrance Carol, was written the first Christmas after my Mom passed away. Yes, she's in a better place. However, I still miss her. Afterall, she was the one that instilled the "Christmas Spirit" into me. It was those thoughts that went into that song.

Have you ever really read A Christmas Carol???

As one who's read it multiple times, I wholeheartedly agree with you---READ IT, or listen to a good unabridged audiobook recording. (It wouldn't be Christmas in our house without listening to Geoffrey Palmer's reading.) As fine as the movie versions are, they can't do justice to Dickens' powers of description.

Have you ever really read A Christmas Carol???

Hi Jeff. I agree. A Christmas Carol is a must read !!! I read it every year and this year is no exception. I read a version called The Annotated Christmas Carol which has side notes of what some of the British terms mean. For example, "I'll retire to Bedlam" was a slang term for Bethlehem Hospital which was like an insane asymlum, just shortened in Cockney, I believe to Bedlam !! There are many more notes in my version which are just fascinating. It is amazing to me that Charles Dickens had such descriptive genius !!! I actually FEEL the cold when he is describing it. Thank you once again for an amazing blog !!!

Love and Loss at Christmas

I am so very sorry for all the loss you have undergone and are undergoing. Thank you for this wonderful entry in your journal, Jeff. It gives me the perspective I feel I need because I too know that sooner or later I will be facing a season of death. I just hope I will be able to handle it and think of it in the way that you do. Blessings.

Christmas Hot, Christmas Cold

With our accidental beginnings and on-the-fly hobbyist evolution expectations are kind of a strong word. Maybe "hope" is better suited in this context. I certainly have more of a vision now than I did before. I just wanted to keep it going because of the very personal rewards of meeting people and enjoying their celebrations of Christmas. The stories I can tell! It has been so richly rewarding for me in that respect.

My expectations now? Welll, I suppose that's evolving too. There is still much I dream about.

Thank you, Jeff for being a Christmas visionary and for allowing us a look into the Yule World as well!

I often wonder how MMC & the Merry Network have evolved in your expectations. Could you have ever seen this far? Thanks for the insight as we look forward to the future!

A Sense of History

Jeff, because of you and the Christmas Crew and all the members this site IS Christmas. I have been to a lot of Christmas sites and THIS SITE feels the most like Christmas to me. Perhaps it is because this site started as a gesture of love. Thank you for all your hard work and for being ever vigilant for all of us. I appreciate you and all here so very much. I am usually very backward and have never felt that I "belong" somewhere. In fact, I am usually the "black sheep" or "outcast". You have made me feel like MMC is my home and that maybe I am important for once in my life and that even an outcast can find a home with Christmas. I sincerely appreciate and feel honored to be in your company along with all the other members here. Oh and, though it is a bit early, Merry CHRISTmas, Jeff and thank you so much.

Lessons on the Side of the Road

Thanks Jeff... now i cant read MMC at work anymore...cause i am starting to tear up in front of my staff.....

I have been here as well though. Only once and with a stray dog in the country and he too looked at me right before. I did all i could but in the end at 55 mph he was gone. I called animal control and stayed there. I never called the cops......i had physically moved the poor guy off the road and knew he was a stray that ran with a few others near our neighborhood. It did serious damage to our explorer (tore the bumper off and bent the oil pan - etc)...but i could have cared less... Even though at the time we had no money for repairs (i used tape to hold the bumper on for a year after that) was of little concern compared to the worry of the pup i hit. At the time i had a big guy myself ( i think you remember he passed last year from bone cancer) and it made me realize how easy he could get out and then it could be him lying here. We were extra careful after that and have been with all our family pets since then.
In the end - God needed the pups for one reason or another and there is a reason for it happening...... could have even been the lady behind you might have hit the pup and she might have seriously lost it and not been able to be as strong as you were in the end...who knows....
I guess its the circle of life and God has his plan and we just have to do the best we can with what he gives us and trust in in him....

Lessons on the Side of the Road

Hi Jeff. You ARE truly a compassionate man. If you were not, you would not have had those feelings after the accidental hitting of the dog. Please try not to blame yourself. Things just happen sometimes.

As a great lover of dogs and really all animals, I will say I am sad right along with you but I agree, it was NOT your fault. As you said, we don't know why things happen. They just happen in a natural order.

In my belief, Gracie is now on the "other side" and I believe she is with the Father who created us all. I hope you will be at peace again. You have nothing to blame yourself for.

When the Dog Bites

I was actually quite shocked to read that you receive emails saying such things. I sat here with my mouth wide open - and shaking my head. Imagine...those people who send you nasty emails like that - to actually go out of their way and do that...I cannot help but think that there must be a certain level of deep sadness in their lives or emotional and/or spiritual problems. Almost makes you feel sorry for them, as they do not know how it is to feel the joy and happiness that Spirit of Christmas brings!

I, for one - and I'm sure the others here and on the merry networks truly thankful and grateful for the work you and your teams have done and for bringing this most wonderful and merry site to us!

There was a time that I thought there were not any other's like me. But because of you...I have met so many others who share in the Christmas Spirit all year long! What a blessing that is!

Thank you, Jeff...and MERRY CHRISTMAS!
