Today we are taking down the Christmas tree…

Posted 12-30-2011 at 11:41 AM by lauriebear

A few years ago while subbing for a teacher at Sunday School I had a group of young ones who were discussing the sad day of putting away the Christmas Tree, so I came up with this to help, I shared it on the 2011 Countdown & thought I should post it to my blog.

--------------------------------------------------

Today we are taking down the Christmas tree… Sad you say?!?! Well, never mind that let me show you what to wrap and where to put this and that…
First we take the love we shared, careful now, place it here, in this box we will wrap it up, but not all you see I’ve left just enough to last the year well plant it later say April or May we will watch it grow, this stuff is powerful and spreads out so nice that before you know it well have those cool nights where will pull in the love from our Fall harvest and gift wrap it out for our next Christmas Service.
Ahhh, the memories, and yes those will be next but watch them...

Icicle Lights for Christmas and Beyond

Posted 12-20-2011 at 02:19 PM by Lazarus

One of the most traditionally used type of holiday lights, icicle lights adorn houses on every corner during Christmas. They are perhaps the most popular type of Christmas light because of their appearance, trailing along roof lines with graceful drops that call to mind the image of frozen icicles in a wintry season. While traditionally used only at Christmas, icicle lights offer a unique display in that they can be used for multiple holidays and functions. With a myriad of colors, they are a versatile product that inspires creativity in design.

A good icicle light has a range of drops with tightly wound wire. Loose wire can destroy the appearance of the frozen icicle, so wire that is twisted tightly and does not gap keeps icicle lights from becoming tangled and unsightly. Another trait of a good icicle light is the color. LED icicle lights have the truest color and a longer life span since they use only 10-20% of the energy that an incandescent light uses. Despite rumors...

Updated 02-05-2013 at 05:49 AM by bigbearfla58 (Roadmap for Thanksgiving 2013)

Saturday, Octobear 20, 2012 8:22 a.m. Thanksgiving is only 32 days from today I hope your Thanksgiving preparations are underway. Getting the very first cold front here in FL going to be 62 degrees tomorrow morning. I'm having friends over tomorrow for test batch of corn bread and breakfast. Also have my foodie friends coming over Sunday, Novembear 11, 2012 for my annual side dish supper.

Friday, September 2, 2011 2:08 p.m. Every year at this time I sit down and start to make my Thanksgiving preparations. I begin by re-seasoning my cast iron skillet. I'm checking to see what I do or don't have in my kitchen cabinets. I have two lists I make one for the ice box and one for the pantry.

Here are my lists of Thanksgiving Essentials to help you prepare for Thanksgiving Day.

Pantry Items:

Baking Soda (check date on box)
Baking Powder (check date on box)
Corn Starch (check date on box)...

Where to put the stupid tree?

Posted 11-10-2010 at 12:55 PM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

Last weekend I found myself driving on a blazing trip to California so my wife could attend to the business of a family medical emergency. I tried to fly her out there but a last minute deal on a one hour flight was more than $1000 so I put her in the car and literally dropped her off at her mother's house and turned around and came back.

This kind of thing was no big deal for the kids as I have left them home alone before, especially since my 24 year old daughter had no work committments for the weekend. As I was literally going out the door -- kids somewhat in shock over the sudden-ness of it all -- I told them if they wanted they could put up the Christmas tree in my absence.

It was a stormy weekend, they would be inside most of the time and it was an activity I felt would keep them happily occupied.

Wrong.

Our main living room -- where the tree has to go -- is very inflexible. It is rectangular in shape, has a large picture...

The Start Of The Magic

It's coming, I feel it. Right now it is a kind of subtle giddiness inside me, a vague sense of excitement, an inside kind of glow. The Christmas season is just around the corner and I feel it !!! Do you feel it as well ??? I was in Rite Aid yesterday and they have Fall things out, which to me is a direct connection to Christmas !!! I am starting to hear songs in my head........."...angels we have heard on high..." Or .........."Chestnuts roasting on an open fire......" As this excitement continues to grow I always tend to grow more hopeful for the world. I am a little idealistic but each year as Christmas approaches I always have the hope that maybe people will finally realize we are all part of the same family, the human family and that some of the silly divisions between us will abate because of that realization and that everyone perhaps will be touched by the magic that is Christmas. The lights, the tree, the decorations, the carols, the time spent quietly appreciating...
