A New Shepherd For Baby Jesus

I thought this was very beautiful. I also posted this in Home and Family on the boards but I wanted to be sure that it might be seen. Animals have the most keen sense about life. Some may say the pup just wanted someplace comfy to lay, I prefer to think it is more than that.
A Nativity Scene was erected in a church yard.

During the night the folks came across this scene.

An abandoned dog was looking for a comfortable, protected place to sleep. He chose baby Jesus as his comfort. No one had the heart to send him away so he was there all night.

We should all have the good sense of this dog and curl up in Jesus' lap from time to time.

At least one good Christmas in the 80s....

Posted 09-23-2010 at 09:35 AM by rodmonster

My family is a bit weird with Christmas.. My little sister is a bit indifferent, and my Mom, Dad, and little Brother...although EXTREMELY religious (Dad is an Education Minister and Brother is a Youth Minsiter)......don't share the feelings i have for Christmas. They love and respect it from the Biblical sense only and don't like anything else past that point...in fact they don't even put a tree up anymore - more less decorate. The don't like me buying them presents ...etc....get the idea?
As kids - we did have a small tree and we did get a few things though... although my dad had a weird way of doing it. He preferred that the gifts were needed things and as we got older - we had to pay for half of what we wanted so we "learned responsibility and that money does not grow on trees...blah blah blah...". Yes i said we paid for half of many of our gifts....so we kinda knew what we were getting...
Needless to say my kids are a bit spoiled at Christmas - as is my wife...and...

Lessons on the Side of the Road

Posted 09-22-2010 at 10:37 AM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

My wife and I were just returning from a wonderful evening together last night when it happened.

We had seen a presentation about relationships and how to communicate effectively. It was a presentation filled with hope, humor and terrific insight. To be honest I wasn’t looking forward to going to the event but unlike others I had been to this one I greatly enjoyed because it made me pensive about the people I love and the relationships we share.

I was shaken out of those thoughts of controlling our critical nature, being positive and communicating effectively as we were driving at about 40 miles per hour down a busy local road. It happened so fast my wife never saw it. I just said “Oh my gosh!” and it happened.

I had hit a dog.

There are few feelings in the world as sickening.

It reminded me a little of a near tragedy I experienced several years ago on a road trip to Idaho. We were on the Interstate, driving at 75 miles...

Angels Of MMC

This past Sunday, September 12, was my birthday. I know some of you remember from a previous blog I had written that I was very sad. I really did not have many good expectations for that day. I was thankfully surprised. I logged on to work that morning and on a break decided to check the forums of MMC. WOW. That is all I can say. I went to the Christmas Countdown thread and there Maureen had started a thread called "Happy Birthday Caninemom3". That in and of itself started tears rolling down my cheeks. To think that someone I have never met thought it was important to recognize my birthday was more than I could bear. As I clicked on the thread there were already several birthday wishes for me. Needles to say I was quite weepy in a good way throughout that day. Every time I looked, there were more and more birthday wishes from the members here on MMC. You are all SO AMAZING !!

Because of all of you, my sadness turned into hopefulness. Because of all of you I felt...

When the Dog Bites

Posted 09-09-2010 at 08:21 PM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

I should write a book about the correspondence I receive through My Merry Christmas.

Most of it is kind-hearted. Christmas blesses the lives of many because it is so easy to share. And that is why, I think, many people reach out to say things when they see something on these pages.

But occasionally I get snarling, nasty emails from folks.

You would think they would bring it to the pages of the forums. But honestly, they are almost always cloaked in the anonymity of the Internet. Most are submitted without real names or returnable email addresses. They simply rage and disappear, content I suppose in knowing that they told me.

Their complaints run the gamut:

"Your site is too Christian!"

"Santa is a fraud (and so are you!)"

"Hell has a spot reserved for sick weirdos who put up websites like this."

"Christmas, like religion, is just a virus of the mind."

"Why you...
