What Christmas Means To Me

Posted 12-10-2012 at 09:33 AM by lauriebear

What Christmas Means To Me

Over the last few weeks I have heard and have been a part of some conversations about Christmas, the whole “Happy Holidays” vs. Merry Christmas. I also kept my mouth shut on some occasions as I truly disagreed with what was being said and decided to not “fuel the fire” so to speak.

So I figured I can write this and post it to my blog here for anyone who might what to read what this time of year means to me. Let me remind you before you start reading, this is solely my opinion, that’s all, and it is how I see this time and why it is special to me.

When the Christmas time draws near (for me it is late September), I really start thinking about what I would like to make and give out. I start to reminisce of the past Christmas cheer and joy. I get excited to see the new Christmas movies that will be on, and the old ones that are part of my family’s traditions to watch. I love to see who is coming out with a new...

Today we are putting up the Christmas tree…

Posted 11-30-2012 at 01:27 PM by lauriebear

Today we are putting up the Christmas tree… Oh how happy this day will be, hurry no time to waste. Do you remember that trunk we packed? The one that holds our most prized possession, well come on now pull it out…
It is overflowing, oh my… Let’s open it up. Look at the Joy, the Cheer, and Peace! Let’s get them out let’s put them up, spread them here and spread them there, give them away to all those we love, new friends too, oh what the heck let’s just give these out, give them to all who come to our door, but let’s not forget to give this to those who need it most. See them go all around spreading happiness all over town. I love how they go about thru the neighbors and down the block, then up the next, just to come back to us. Why it has grown and spread, I am sure it did, look how much more we have it has been but a mere minute out and our Joy & Cheer have already grown and spread around.
Here come the memories of Christmas’ past; why here they come,...

Black Friday Is Ruining Thanksgiving

Posted 11-23-2012 at 02:23 PM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)
Updated 11-23-2012 at 02:29 PM by xmas365

As someone who has been "behind the counter" for Black Friday the last 19 years in one way or another, another Black Friday has once again brought out the ugly side of the human population. When I first started working on Black Friday's I was an ignorant 18 year old kid who really never heard or paid attention to the concept. I never heard of "Doorbusters," "Black Friday," que lines, and so on. I worked people came in bought what they wanted and left, you rarely saw riots, trampling, fist fights arguments. In this society of instant gratification, and instant fame of YouTube you see these people making fools of themselves of what has become nothing more than legalized looting, I fear my safety going to work and I cannot enjoy my family time on Thanksgiving, with the anxiety I feel all day building before zero hour gets there, I am not the only one who feels that way because if we make one wrong move at the wrong time we could be the one being trampled or...

Dashing Through the Snow - The Story of "Jingle Bells"

Posted 11-20-2012 at 12:16 PM by lauriebear

By Duane Shinn

Many people are surprised to learn that "Jingle Bells" was actually written for American Thanksgiving. The song was composed by James Lord Pierpont, and details surrounding his life and the writing of the song have been contended over the years. In fact, in some older publications, the song's writer is listed as 'anonymous.' It is commonly accepted today, however, that Pierpont was indeed the writer, though the song was originally published under the title "One Horse Open Sleigh."

A musician, Pierpont was not famous, at least during his own time. In fact, it's highly likely that he never made a dime off of "Jingle Bells." Pierpont, the son of an American minister, struggled at times to eke out a living for his family, especially when he suffered a business loss during the San Francisco gold rush. Broke, and with a wife and children to support, he headed from California to Savannah, Georgia to ask his brother John...

The Journey Of A Lifetime

Posted 11-18-2012 at 09:54 PM by caninemom3

She was just an ordinary teenager who lived in a small town. Her parents and family were poor and made a modest living off the land but always provided for her and several relatives as was custom. She had always been a very devout Jewish girl being sure to follow to the letter the laws and traditions of her people. As she sat very still listening to the quiet Summer breeze she was both terrified and excited. A visitor had come to see her just a few hours ago. A visitor who was unlike any she had ever seen or spoken with ever in her life. The visitor was almost human looking but had such a presence of the ethereal about it. It could not be described as man or woman but rather as without gender with a kindly face yet with a commanding presence. The words the visitor spoke were most troubling for the young girl whose name was Miriam.

It had told her she was "blessed among all women" and that she had "found favor with God." How could she of all people have...
