Movin' on Up, Moving on In...

Posted 07-08-2012 at 11:40 AM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

It has been a time of unprecedented change for us. But things are starting to look up after what has admittedly been a horrific year.

Here's the outside of our new country home...

This home is located some 100 miles from our home of the past 12 years. It is located in the country, some 2 miles away from a Pepperidge Farms facility that manufactures fishies (my kids insist this is an important detail and "new feature" in their lives).

It is a pretty drastic change from our humble little city track home. We're leaving a community of 90,000 in a suburb of Salt Lake City for a tiny farming community of 2,400. The absence of traffic noise, the presence of country aromas (cows), and the brilliance of the stars at night are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the change this is for us.

The house has a very park-like setting...

We have...

God And The Higgs Boson

Posted 07-07-2012 at 01:37 AM by caninemom3

It seems the scientific world has a new "toy". Scientists at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland have discovered at long last their elusive "masterpiece", the Higgs boson, i.e., the God particle.

I am not an intellectual by any means but I can tell from all the hoopla this has received in the press it is apparently a big deal.

Why ? Well apparently the Higgs boson is the particle that gives matter mass. It is associated with the theory that the universe was created with a "big bang".

I can never understand why when something scientific is discovered the elitists from the physics community always say whatever discovery it is points to there being no creator, no God and the Higgs boson is no exception. I surfed a few forums in the last few days where all these "brainy" people are going on and on about the Higgs boson and how it proves there is no God. Worse yet, the majority of them were saying plenty of rude things...

Independence Day Memories

Posted 07-04-2012 at 08:26 PM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)

July 4, it may not be a favorite of holidays of a lot of people, but for me it is #3 behind Christmas and Thanksgiving. It is the holiday of the summer, and for me it has always struck the right chord going all the way back to my youth. It has always been one of the biggest family holidays for us just like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween when I was a kid. The fireworks are great, but that always seemed secondary to the cookouts and other fare going on. My favorite memory of July 4 goes all the way back to 1984, we had just moved into our house right by Lake Paradise in the town where we live now, my parents were still together at that point and we were having a huge cookout with my cousins, aunt & uncle grandparents and I think if I remember correctly, some friends. It was also the first time I ever saw the Summerfest since we went downtown to fly my uncle's radio controlled airplane, which I thought was so cool.
I don't remember the foods but I don't think I would be...

Surgery

Posted 07-04-2012 at 07:59 PM by Lynn68 (Everything Christmas)

Two weeks and two days ago, on June 18th, I had corrective eye surgery. I have two eye conditions with my right eye which I have had all my life. One is called strabismus and the other is amblyopia...both go together sometimes, if you're unlucky. Strabismus is where your two eyes are not aligned, one or both might be crossed. And amblyopia is what happens to an eye sometimes when it's looking the wrong way for too long, it goes blind/partially blind. I can only see what I call colorful shadows with my right eye. I had surgery to straighten my eye, which involved moving one eye muscle forward and one back. There wasn't too much pain involved, mostly it was just uncomfortable and I was off of work for two weeks to let my eye heal up a bit since it was completely red. Unfortunately I will never have sight in that eye but it's now as straight as my right eye is and I couldn't be happier. The reason I'm posting about my surgery on MMC is because I was so nervous as I walked into the O.R. and...

Running Away From Home

Posted 06-18-2012 at 10:14 PM by caninemom3

Thinking back over the past few months makes me tired. There have been so many ups and downs even a yo-yo couldn't keep track. I have been sad that one of my MMC friends was diagnosed with cancer. I have been joyous because my husband and I finally seem to be communicating better than we ever did. I have been devastated to lose one of my furchildren. I have been exhilerated to be able to leave my old job where I was very unhappy for a new job working the shift I wanted only to be shot down and utterly disappointed because the new job did not work out and I had to crawl back to my old one.

During all of this I was going through a kind of agnostic period in my life. I have had doubts before but never like the doubts I had this time. It seemed as though the world and life and all the troubles that come with them were all crushing me and I had no place to turn. I actually felt for the first time ever that there was nobody there to hear me. I tried to listen but all I heard was...
