Shedding Tears

It has been a while since I last posted on my blog, and with everything going on in the world and in life in general, I have some thoughts I would like to share.

It is hard to witness what is going on in Japan right now, they are broadcasting it on the news, will the nuclear power plant turn into the next Chernobyl? Three Mile Island? The search for survivors is always great to hear when they find one, but the loss of life is just horrific to hear about. The people over there are going through hell right now and you have jackasses like Gilbert Gottfried making insensitive jokes about their pain and suffering.

Death seems to be the prevalent topic at the moment for a lot of people, my wife went to the wake of her former high school basketball coach on Friday, while she was in line for the viewing, her friend received a text message stating that another former basketball coach, and really good family friend of hers had a heart attack and died that same day....

Wearing St. Nick's Shoes

Posted 03-15-2011 at 12:01 AM by jimmyolsen (Writing Christmas)

In the Santa Claus & the North Pole forum, Sanity Clause posed an excellent question. On the first day of March, Sanity asked, "What is Santa up to in March?"

The question drew several solid answers in the first few days.

But we all know the world has changed since then. That made me wonder, how does the man who embodies the spirit of Christmas deal with overwhelming sorrow?

Not so differently from us, I suspect.

I think it's when we're touched by love or joy or grief for our fellow man that we're most like Christ. And it is, after all, the love of Christ that St. Nick delivers to his fellow man.

As I said in the forum, I'm sure St. Nick has a well worn itinerary for March, and I'm sure that, this year, it doesn't apply.

I suspect he's strolling through the greenhouses, tending the trees, mulling over Christmases past, present and future, wondering about the nature of things.

Heaven

Heaven

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road it looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.

He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, ‘Excuse me, where are we?’

‘This is Heaven, sir,’ the man answered.
‘Wow! Would you happen to have some water?’ the man asked.

‘Of course, sir. Come right...

Advice From Susy

Posted 03-05-2011 at 10:30 PM by caninemom3

Hi Susy, or I guess I should say mom.

Yes, it's me again. I miss you so much. You must know that because I tell you every single day. Mama, I hope you are okay.

If I could just speak to you and know you are well again, not suffering and happy then maybe I would not tear up everytime I think about you. We were always such wonderful and close friends as well as mom and daughter. You never hesitated to be the "mom" if the situation needed it and never shirked your responsibility by trying to be the "friend" all the time. You were always by my side even though I was not always by yours.

What a terrible and awful child I was to you. Except I somehow got the courage and foiled the plans to put you in a nursing home which was a very bad one and I did put a halt on your receiving a PEG tube which you certainly did not need. Those two situations would have been the work of my brother, Julius. But somehow, I got the courage and spoke...
