A Terrible Decision

Posted 12-03-2010 at 05:14 AM by caninemom3

I have always adored animals. My parents raised me to respect them, taught me they have feelings and souls and are to be treated as furry brothers and sisters. I have always tried to uphold these teachings as my parents were 2 of the most wonderful people I have ever loved and there is not a day that goes by that I do not miss them, especially my mother, Susy.

Those commercials on TV are just heart wrenching to me. The ASPCA or Humane Society. There is one that starts out showing a furry little doggie shaking badly and the caption below it is "Why do they keep beating me ?" It not only makes me weep but it outrages me. How dare ANYONE HURT AN ANIMAL OR A CHILD !!! HOW DARE THEY.

Yesterday I had to make a decision which every pet parent probably has to make sooner or later. One of my beloved feline children who had been ill had reached the end of her road.

My journey with Punkin' started 15 years ago. It was Summer, not a good Summer....

The Christmas Angel, by Abbie Farwell Brown

Posted 12-01-2010 at 11:21 AM by MerryCarey (MerryCarey's Blog)

Occasionally a thread pops up in the Merry Forums asking for advice on good Christmas books to read. This little book, one hundred years old this year, is always my answer. I stumbled across it a few years ago, read it, and fell in love with it. Living Age magazine in 1910 reviewed the book by saying, “Not since Charles Dickens laid down his pen forever has there been a prettier Christmas story written, one more full of the real spirit of Christmas or conveying a more seasonable lesson.” High praise, but well deserved.

When you first begin to read the story, you may believe that you’re reading yet another variation on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The main character, old Miss Terry, is a female Scrooge if ever there was one. “What is our Christmas, anyway?” she scoffs. “A time for shopkeepers to sell and for foolish folks to kill themselves in buying. Christmas spirit? No! It is...

My Ridiculous Christmas T-Shirt Collection

Posted 11-30-2010 at 08:29 AM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)

I finally decided to go through my Christmas t-shirt collection to see what I have, and to my astonishment I now have 16 different shirts. It all started 5 years ago when I was going through a rack of shirts and I came across a brown Grinch shirt, I liked it and thought to myself I don't have any Christmasy shirts so I decided to buy it and it was only $.75. I liked that shirt a lot and my collection just kept growing every year, and every year I cannot wait until the stores bring out the new collection, I look year round on Ebay, just for something new. The 16 only takes in account the ones I wear everywhere, I have a number that have been "retired" just because they are worn or something I wear on a lazy day. I enjoy wearing them for my kids because they love them also, and they have their own shirts to.

I love this time of year and I literally wear it in my sleeve or chest.

Here are pictures of my collection!

Surviving Bullying

Posted 11-28-2010 at 12:19 PM by caninemom3

I haven't really talked about bullying until this blog. I have been reading about some of the very sad and tragic cases of what can happen as a consequence of bullying and I truly feel for each victim and their family.

I am a survivor of bullying. Not just as a child or adolescent but also as an adult.

I guess my first experience of real bullying came about when I was in junior high. I hated junior high with a passion. It just so happened at the time when I was in 8th grade my father's alcoholism went into full throttle. It was during that time that he decided to not put food on the table so much and also decided our family did not need the necessities such as soap, laundry soap and things of the sort to keep clean.

I was wearing my sister's clothes, I remember, and she is 11 years older than I so needless to say they did not fit. I have NEVER been a confident person and certainly was not at that stage. A group of the kids knew how to get to...

As We Approach Christmas

Posted 11-25-2010 at 06:47 PM by caninemom3

Tonight is Thanksgiving. I cannot even begin to count all the blessings I have in my life. I think of all the people here in our country and other countries who have nothing. I mean absolutely nothing. And here I am. I never want for food or warmth or any of the creature comforts that every human being and yes even "animals" should have a right to. It is not because of anything I did or do that I have all these blessings. I believe they are all a gift from God, our Father.

Now that we are approaching Christmas I think about Mary and Joseph and the way they found their way into history.

What was it like for them to become the caretakers on Earth of the Messiah ?? Did they see him as the Messiah ?? or just their baby ?? I wonder....

I used to think of them as I would see them in paintings or depicted in the movies of my youth, always holy and always devout. Never doubting or getting angry. In short I did not see them as human, which...
