Who do you want to be in 2013

Posted 01-09-2013 at 11:31 AM by lauriebear

I was asked this question today. Well, as I pondered the answer, the little girl standing next to me on the subway stated, I want to be me!!! I smiled at that simple answer, and I looked at the person who asked me this and I said, I ditto her answer, I too want to be me. We all laughed a little, but it really had me thinking. As I walked into my field office I asked some of my foremen, who they wanted to be in 2013, some answered rich, others said retired, a few just said I don't know. Well, to be honest I didn't know either. I want to be me but who is me...

Now it really has me thinking, so I will pose this question to MMC too, who do you want to be in 2013. On December 1st we should go back and see if we lived up to our own expectations.

Here is what I will strive for in 2013 - this is who I want to be...

1. I will smile at everyone on the subway, and I mean everyone even the ones I would shy away from.

2. I will turn...

The January Christmas Fan

Posted 01-05-2013 at 08:59 AM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

January, believe it or not, is one of our most active months of the year.

There are basically three types of Christmas fans online: the December Christmas fan, the year round celebrant and the wanna-be year round celebrant, or, as I like to call them, the January Christmas fan.

The December Christmas fan is the most common. These are folks who love Christmas and celebrate it heartily in December. But once Christmas is over, it's over and we won't see them again until next Christmas.

The year round Christmas fan we know well. These are folks who aren't shy about anything Christmas at any time.

Then there is the January Christmas Fan, a fascinating group of Christmas enthusiasts who are too busy in December with their Christmas to be here, so they show up in January, like the life of the party who shows up late.

We get a lot of feedback from January Christmas fans. And I want them to know we appreciate it.

The closing of 2012 and the start of 2013…

Posted 12-31-2012 at 12:09 PM by lauriebear

Like a lot of other member’s blogs that I was reading the week of Christmas for me is a mix of the wonderful season we are enjoying and that touch of apprehension of the coming days without the warm glow of the tree.
So I start reminiscing over the last year and pick out the good times, I also list the “bad” times. I look over what I want to accomplish this coming year and what I will learn in the New Year. I always try to learn something new each year some things I stick with as I enjoy them, some I do not as they just do not spark real joy inside me. But, if you do not try something at least once you won’t ever know. As I do this I love reliving each memory, like the fun I had on my birthday this past February and then I wonder how much fun 2013’s birthday will be?!?! Or I think back to the beach and those mornings watching the sun come up over the Atlantic Ocean and the feel of the July sun on my face, the feel of the sand between my toes and Snicker’s digging a hole...

Channeling George Bailey

Posted 12-28-2012 at 05:15 PM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

We are slow to give up Christmas in my house. I've never much understood those folks who kick their Christmas tree to the curb on Christmas night (well, unless it is a fire hazard). So we saw nothing wrong with watching It's a Wonderful Life last night, two days after Christmas.

The week of Christmas is always a week I enjoy. Maybe it is because the pressure is off and I can actually enjoy the spontaneous bit of Christmas I missed earlier in the month. But it is also a time of reflection and planning ahead. Many people consider that a New Year's activity. But for me and what I do, it is definitely part of my Christmas routine. My whole year's to-do list for MMC begins with the big ideas of this week, while the experience of the season is still fresh in my mind.

But this year there was a bit of melancholy to my routine. We did not have our best season here at MMC. There are a lot of reasons for that and if I had to assess "blame" it would be on my personal family...

Put Up Your Dukes, Post-Christmas Blues.

Posted 12-28-2012 at 03:27 PM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)

Here I sit just before 5pm on December 28, I just flicked on my outdoor display and the rest of the indoor Christmas lights. I go through this every year a few days after Christmas, the feeling of emptiness like the way it feels when a beloved family member leaves to back home after a visit. I am a full blown Christmas enthusiast and these are the dark days after a full year of anticipation, seeing people take down their Christmas lights while your driving around just feels like a punch to the gut. I love seeing the decorations but before we know it they will be downstairs under the stairs like Frosty from Christmas With the Kranks. My outdoor lights stay on until January 8, I try to keep them on until after my birthday which is January 7. My indoor lights and decor usually stays up until the first weekend after my birthday. As I have said before everything stays up that long because of my love of Christmas that goes back to my childhood and pleading with my parents to keep the tree and...
