The Heart of the Christmas Fan

Posted 10-17-2012 at 10:22 PM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

Some times this job is just too sweet.

I love this time of year because it is when the Christmas fanatic comes out of the woodwork. And I usually learn a lot more about Christmas when they do.

Don't get me wrong: there are year round Christmas crazies out there. Christmas never really goes away for those of us who love it so much. But sometimes people are afraid to show it because there is a loud and opinionated minority out there that mocks someone who walks a block out of their way to see a lighted Christmas tree.

But there's something about October. The fans come out and begin to share those things that makes Christmas work for them. And there are so many specialties out there.

Take, for example, the story of Lou, shared over at our new site at ShowUsYourChristmas.com. His love of Christmas drove him to festively decorate a 50-foot trailer in lights and decor and hit the road in the dead of winter dressed as Santa to bring a little...

October the start of it all

Posted 10-15-2012 at 10:06 AM by lauriebear

Hi everyone… Is it possible that today is 10/15/2012?!?!? Was it nine months ago that I posted about what I felt about January, well it was and yes it really is 10/15/2012!!! How excited I am, as I am sure many of you are, all the planning all the counting down and here we are as another Christmas season starts.
I love October, well really I do enjoy every calendar month, and well October is no exception, but oddly enough I think I love October best of all… No, you read that right, for I feel we are on the cusp of all the wonderful things starting. Like what will be the first Christmas Carol you will here on the radio? Who will send you your first Christmas card, do you always put one particular ornament up first or does it differ year to year, if it does which one will be first on the tree? What will be the first gift to arrive from out of town (if you get them mailed to you)? Yes, October is wonderful and so many firsts to look forward too. I am planning my Thanksgiving...

Turkey Roasting Tips 2013

Posted 10-08-2012 at 10:51 AM by bigbearfla58
Updated 06-10-2013 at 06:20 PM by bigbearfla58 (New Tips for 2013 Happy Thanksgiving burp!)

Monday, Octobear 08, 2012 Happy Columbus Day. I have no way of knowing if you are a kitchen hero or a negative integer kitchen zero so I'm going to sick with what I call turkey 101.

Turkey Roasting 101

If this is your 1st Thanksgiving or you got married this year congratulations. Fair warning do not let your new mother-in-law volunteer you to make the entire Thanksgiving dinner this year. If this happens simply say "Since I am in charge of the Thanksgiving feast this year I'll make tuna helper and order out for pepperoni pizza with extra anchovies" After she wakes up from having fainted ask if she will let you follow her around the kitchen and learn all of your Thanksgiving recipes and secrets.

Please click this link for the butterball web site for proper thawing and roasting instructions.

Never put hot stuffing into a cold turkey that causes bacteria to grow and you absolutely want to avoid that. The golden rule of stuffing...

How Far Is Too Far?

Posted 09-25-2012 at 02:43 PM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)

I am writing this as I have just witnessed something disgusting in the center of my town, I am not writing this too be polarizing, or "preach from a soapbox."
I ran to the grocery store before picking up my son, and I saw something in front of Dunkin Donuts that I thought that I could not believe was there. I ran to pick up my son, and I felt like I had to drive by it again to be sure of what I saw. Someone set up in front of Dunkin Donuts, a table with a few posters of President Barack Obama made to look like Adolph Hitler, with signs saying "impeach Obama." I could not care about the impeach signs, that is their Freedom of Speech right, but when you put it with posters that make him look like one of the most evil men in history, that is crossing the line. I don't care if it was Barack Obama, George Bush, Bill Clinton, or Ronald Reagan, that is crossing the line, the people we elect, no matter who they are and if you like them or not, none of our presidents...
