Where Are You Christmas ?

Posted 10-07-2010 at 12:41 PM by caninemom3
Updated 01-09-2011 at 11:57 AM by caninemom3 (sad, depression)

I have to admit I am really sad. I don't know even where to begin. I do not want to drag anyone down who reads this but here goes.

Christmas Season is right around the corner and I LOVE THAT !!! I truly love Christmas. There is just nothing like it. I guess what is bothering me so much are a few financial things. We desperately need a new furnace. We do not have natural gas where I live so we have an oil furnace. The thing is that we went through very hard times 5 years ago and had to declare bankruptcy. Though it has long been discharged it stays on your record for 7 years at least. There are no banks who will even consider giving us a loan so we are potentially facing Winter with no furnace. It sort of works intermittently but our old furnace is 56 years old. The motor is shot and you cannot buy a new one because it is THAT outdated and no parts can be bought either. I know that "this too shall pass" but I just don't know how.

We have tried multiple...

Playing the Christmas Waiting Game

Posted 10-07-2010 at 11:51 AM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)

I am feeling better today thanks to LC, his laugh has been the best medicine for me.

Here we sit in early Autumn, the Halloween decorations are up and now starts the waiting, the waiting for the season I wait for all year long. The longest stretch of the year is right now for me as I have felt that way ever since childhood. I always had to tell myself once Halloween gets here it is all down hill from there, the rush to Christmas starts for me November 1. I will take down the Halloween decorations down that day in order to get prepped for the Christmas decorations. I am doing the waiting game now, our fall activity list is nearly done with the apple picking, pumpkin picking, decorating, the Big E (which I forgot stands for Expensive). A few things we will probably do like going up to Yankee Candle again, maybe a haunted hayride for the first time in JP's life, a trip to a corn maze, and of course the annual fall event the raking of the leaves which is the only one set in...

Come On Get Happy

Posted 10-06-2010 at 09:49 PM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)
Tags happy

I don't know what is wrong with me lately, I should feel happy but I can't seem to get happy. I have had to force myself to come to this website to try to cheer myself up, but it hasn't worked. I have been reading the Christmas Countdown thread and I cannot get myself to leave little writings for everyone. Maybe I am just spreading myself too thin lately, with the new work schedule and all that is going on there, they make me feel like a number rather than human, it was never like that before. My son has been in school 4 weeks and he has had 3 notes sent home already just for behavior issues. I rarely get to see my wife and the house is in a constant state of disaster. It has been raining for days and absolutely dreary. I feel so exhausted yet I cannot fall asleep until it is so late, this past weekend the kids let us sleep until nearly 8am which is a rarity. I want to feel happy with Christmas only about 79 days away, but I just can't right now.
I have hit a blip in the road, I...

Just What Exactly is the Christmas Spirit?

Posted 10-06-2010 at 01:03 PM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

Every time I send out a new newsletter I hold my breath. Over the years, the Merry News has grown to 50,000 subscribers.

I am always a little shocked at some of the feedback we receive when we send that many emails out. The sheer number, of course, means there will be work to do. You can't cram thousands of people into a building without having the bathrooms ready, you know? Even still, I get surprised at how some people respond.

The software we're using tells me where a subscriber came from -- their IP address, their approximate physical location, the website they subscribed from, the time, date and even browser they were using when they signed up. I see all that. So when they write the darndest things I just have to laugh.

Some, of course, claim they never subscribed at all and would YOU GUYS QUIT SPAMMING ME ALL THE TIME! (This was just our 2nd newsletter since last Christmas). Sigh.

Others will write: What are you talking...

A Sense of History

Posted 10-05-2010 at 02:52 PM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

I do not feel as old as I sound. And I'm NOT as old as I sound, I suppose. But when you start throwing terms around like "history" and "20th anniversary" you tend to sound a bit, well, old.

But next week we start our 20th year of publishing Christmas.

Now, I know I've told the story over and over. But let me qualify that statement for those who haven't read it or heard it before: When I met my wife she came with a bonus: a five year old little girl who would become my eldest daughter. She didn't believe in Santa. We enlisted the help of Elf Ernest that first fall and Christmas together to teach her about Santa and to answer her questions about Christmas. These came in the way of Santa Updates, over a fax machine. Those faxes she passed to her friends, whose parents called us wanting the faxes too. That grew from a handful to dozens to hundreds -- which eventually pushed us to the Internet. And here we are today -- 20 years later, still doing it, still celebrating...
