Lessons on the Side of the Road

Posted 09-22-2010 at 10:37 AM by Jeff Westover (A Merry Blog)

My wife and I were just returning from a wonderful evening together last night when it happened.

We had seen a presentation about relationships and how to communicate effectively. It was a presentation filled with hope, humor and terrific insight. To be honest I wasn’t looking forward to going to the event but unlike others I had been to this one I greatly enjoyed because it made me pensive about the people I love and the relationships we share.

I was shaken out of those thoughts of controlling our critical nature, being positive and communicating effectively as we were driving at about 40 miles per hour down a busy local road. It happened so fast my wife never saw it. I just said “Oh my gosh!” and it happened.

I had hit a dog.

There are few feelings in the world as sickening.

It reminded me a little of a near tragedy I experienced several years ago on a road trip to Idaho. We were on the Interstate, driving at 75 miles...

A little hand

Posted 09-21-2010 at 07:50 PM by Faith4always

I love looking at my baby's little hands. They are so precious and sweet.
I am wondering what to get those little hands for Christmas this year. Hagin will be 10 months old and Nathan is 4 years old!
Then I have a 20 yr old, 18 yr old 15 yr old too.
They all start having birthdays next month.
But, this is Hagin's first Christmas and I can't wait to go Christmas shopping for him!
I also still need to get him a Christmas stocking!! Exciting times!!
Bring on Christmas 2010!!

Just A Dog

Here is a poem I had to post. This describes completely how I feel about my furchildren who are "just dogs". I hope all the animal lovers here will enjoy this. I found it to be very beautiful.

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or "that's a lot of money for just a dog."

They don't understand the distance travelled, the time spent,
or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog."

It Has Begun!

Posted 09-20-2010 at 09:38 PM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)

It is September 20, the football season is in full swing, apple orchards are open for the annual pilgrimage of people looking for fall activities, hockey training camps are open, and we have begun our annual hunt for the perfect Christmas gifts. We usually start pretty slow, waiting for the flyers with the unbeatable sale price, and they slowly start filtering down now as the stores build their inventories for the season. We set a goal to have all shopping done by December 1, so we can fully enjoy the season, I think we have met that goal only once in 9 years. That is okay now with so much shopping being done online, which I fully enjoy, because we don't have to fight the crowds at the mall. Well, today I went to the children's Mecca of TRU (Toys R Us) They had exactly what our focus of gifts were going to be for the boys, Imaginext toys. They are great toys and very durable for our hard playing boys, they were buy 2 get 1 free. I enjoy going there, especially without the boys, because...

In my happy place!!!

Posted 09-19-2010 at 06:50 AM by Maureen

Well, this is a first!! Me, blogging.......where will it all end?!

I'm sitting here, as you do, pondering on the great mysteries of life. Do I want another coffee before I head out into the rain with the dogs? Can the dogs wait for me to have another coffee before I head out into the rain with them? Do I have a shower before or after the said rainy walk (that one was simple; if I get soaked, I'm gonna want to heat up when I get back!) I'm sure the dogs won't hold it against me and any dodgy unwashed smell emanating from me will more than be disguised by eau de wet mutt!!! Anyway, too much information for delicate ears to handle this early on a Sunday, I'm sure.......

Heading back to the plot (I have a tendency to digress more than just a little, so please make yourselves comfortable and fasten your safety belt, it could end up quite the journey..) I'm still sitting here and I'm in my happy place. The unwalked dogs are sitting at my feet next to the radiators...
