Welcome to our newest member, hewlieje
My name is Ron, I am a Christmas nut always have been always will be. I am first and foremost a stay at home dad that has an evening job at a retail/grocery establishment. After my second son was born I stepped down from my management position, so my wife and I don't have to pay for daycare. My wife is a teacher in the town we live, so people recognize us everywhere in our little town.
My wife and I have been married for 9 years. We have 2 boys aged 6 and 3, both are young Christmas nuts.

I have loved Christmas as long as I remember
from seeing the lights on all the houses, to seeing if I could stay awake to see Santa.
Christmas has been the one constant in my life it has always been there for me, through the rough times of my parents divorce when I was 10 y/o or my mother's passing when I was 16.
Everyone always tried to make it something special for myself and sister when we were young no matter what was going on. I now believe that is why I love this time of year more than any other because of the efforts of my family to hold it above any other time of year. I get to make the season special for my boys now, whether it be by playing the music decorating the house and yard or just playing the dvd's. The memories the season has brought have always warm and it is no wonder why I look forward to making more of these memories every year. My favorite Christmas movie is A Christmas Story my favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night. My favorite Christmas artist is Bing Crosby.
Well if I ran on a little bit I am sorry I am new to blogging, it sounds always better in your mind.
I will try to keep posting and making it interesting for all who read.

Life Gets in the Way of a Blog

When I first joined MMC, I was just looking for a way to fight the PCB's (post Christmas blues) I thought it may just be a way to quickly fend those blues off and then on with life. I started coming in and reading posts, playing the fun & games, and just looking at pictures, it did help, and you know I stuck around. I had more time in my life at that point, I was more of a stay at home dad, I only worked 25-30 hours a week, so LC would take a nap I would log on, JP at preschool I would log on, down time while kids were playing, log on, and so on. When I first stepped down to take care of the boys I had discussed about doing a blog with my wife about life of a stay at home dad, but things at that time were absolutely bonkers with a 6 month old, moving from an apartment to our house, at that time I don't think I was ever more physically or emotionally exhausted with all going on. It would be more than a year before I joined and the thought of a blog was out of my mind. I joined here...

Christmas Store Ideas Volume 1

Posted 05-03-2011 at 08:38 PM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)

As I am starting to go over what will be needed to open and run a Christmas store, I have thought of some things that I hope that will keep the customers coming in throughout the year, as it is a very niche idea of a few hardcore Christmas nuts I will need to keep it in the minds of the community 365 days. I have my notes that I have for myself that I will not be sharing yet, but I would like to share some of the ideas I have come up with to try to draw people in throughout the whole year.

1. Pinpointed sales-Special days throughout the year to drive more people in. Things like Rudolph Day sales, Clearance sales in Jan. & Feb. Christmas in July sales etc...

2. Team up with other local businesses, i.e. Chamber of Commerce, coupons for other businesses if you buy so many $ worth of merchandise.

3. Stock what people want. Obvious one, stock items that are collectible, Byer's Choice Carolers, Fabriche Santa Claus, villages, and hard to find...

Happy 6th!

Tags 6th, birthday

6 years ago at this moment (11:00pm), we were only a little more than an hour away from meeting our first child. I was unaware of how much my life was going to change, even though we had gone to classes, read books, etc... Nothing could prepare you for how much your world changes. My boy JP will be 6, and to see how much he has grown from that little helpless baby, to such a smart, energetic, handsome boy he is now, is such a shock. I love that boy so much, he has changed my life for the better, and I will continue to do my best to raise him to be a respectful, honest, caring young man. Nearly 6 years ago we were bringing him home for the first time, two young parents standing on the stoop of our apartment, crying and looking at each other, with one question: What do we do? I think we have done well thus far.

Happy 6th Birthday JP!

Brain Dump

Posted 03-30-2011 at 08:29 AM by xmas365 (Christmas, Life, and Family)

I have written a few times in not to distant past about wanting to open and run my own Christmas store, I am realizing that the dream of doing that is probably a little farther away than I was anticipating.
We are having a little trouble with one of my wife's student loans, and the amount they want us to pay per month is just not feasible with other bills and such at this time. We have been trying to work with them, but they just don't want to help us out right now. My wife and I earn a very nice income combined, but between bills, daycare, mortgage, and thankfully only one car payment, the 6 months of oil which has gone up like 400% since we first moved in together. Our salaries have not gone up that much, and I assume most people have not either. The stress of everyday life and squeaking by is tough enough and now add this, we are honest hard working people who have earned everything we own, and sometimes you see people who will not help themselves, get hand outs to give them...

Shedding Tears

It has been a while since I last posted on my blog, and with everything going on in the world and in life in general, I have some thoughts I would like to share.

It is hard to witness what is going on in Japan right now, they are broadcasting it on the news, will the nuclear power plant turn into the next Chernobyl? Three Mile Island? The search for survivors is always great to hear when they find one, but the loss of life is just horrific to hear about. The people over there are going through hell right now and you have jackasses like Gilbert Gottfried making insensitive jokes about their pain and suffering.

Death seems to be the prevalent topic at the moment for a lot of people, my wife went to the wake of her former high school basketball coach on Friday, while she was in line for the viewing, her friend received a text message stating that another former basketball coach, and really good family friend of hers had a heart attack and died that same day....
