Radio Station Christmas Music Stunt Log
Until now a new thread has been started each time a radio station stunts with all Christmas music.

Here we will establish a permanent log for such activity.

Radio stations often "stunt" with all Christmas music for a period between format changes. These stunts may last anywhere from a day to a whole week and are more prevalent during weekends.

A more detailed definition of stunting may be found here.

When you hear or know of a station stunting with all Christmas content, note it in this thread. Provide a listen link if available as well.

CKEA - Edmonton, Alberta Canada
March 26-27, 2011

CKEA - Lite 95.7 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada stunted with all Christmas this past weekend, March 26-27, 2011. The station went on the air in September 2010 with an Adult Alternative format. Following the weekend of Christmas, CKEA emerged as Adult Contemporary.

CKEA staged Not-So-Secret Santas around town as a promotion during the weekend. The Santas handed out numbered cards to people that “found” them. Every morning this week the station will announce a random number and award the holder One Thousand Dollars to start the workweek out right!

CKEA has declared that they will go all Christmas “every year during the holiday season”.

When I checked the CKEA webpage this morning, I caught at least one Christmas song, (“Merry Christmas Darling” by the Carpenters) in the mix with other songs. The song may have been played in conjunction with the card number contest.

Be sure to click on page two when you visit the web site.

From the webpage (which features a listen link):

WMJJ Birmingham, AL & WTLT Ft. Meyers/Naples, FlL
1 Attachment(s)
Two radio stations switched to all Christmas music this past weekend for Christmas in July.

Magic 96.5 WMJJ in Birmingham, Alabama USA made the switch with the slogan “Get your holly jolly fix now”. WMJJ has been the Christmas station during the season for the past few years in the Birmingham market.

Likewise, in Ft. Myers/Naples, Florida USA, Lite 93.7 WTLT featured an all Christmas music weekend.

There was no format change involved for either station. The stunts were for Christmas in July and to beat the heat.

KQLA - Manhattan, Kansas USA
July 2013

KQLA - Manhattan, Kansas is stunting with Christmas music prior to a format change.

Online listen link - http://live.srb.crystalmedianetworks...lay/radio/kqla

Or via TuneIn App -

I’m recording at least five hours via DAR to save for an air check.

Christmas Comes To Manhattan

Eagle Communications AC “Q103.5” KQLA Ogden, KS is stunting with Christmas music.

The Christmas in July stunt will lead to a format change as Eagle registered for the station last week. That would expand the “Q Country” brand used by Eagle Communications in Alliance, Chadron, and North Platte, NE and St. Joseph, MO into the Manhattan/Junction City market.

The KQLA website still shows their old format (I kinda wished they had switched the website to something Christmasy...).

I'm listening right now, and the songs they are playing are much more traditional radio fare compared to what was playing on that WCSF station in Joliet, IL the last couple of days. Still, I'm enjoying it. At least it's not 13 different versions of "Last Christmas" and "Happy X-Mas: War is Over".

Wonder how long this will last? Probably not past July 31st...

WJSJ isn't in the station list. Really no point in adding it right now either. Hopefully there is an oline listen link at the station webpage (The page is blocked for me at work). If so, i'll record a couple of hours with Adobe Audition from home.

From Radio Insight:

WJSJ Brings Christmas Fun In Jacksonville

July 28, 2013 at 8:09 pm By Lance Venta

As bankruptcy receiver Scott Savage sells off some of the former Tama Broadcasting stations, another one is preparing to launch a new format.

Spanish Tropical “Caliente 105.3” WJSJ Fernandina Beach/Jacksonville dropped its format this afternoon and began stunting with Christmas music. In explaining the motives behind the change to their listeners on Facebook, the station stated it was lack of advertiser support that did the former format in.

In terms of what’s next, and were registered by station OM Joel Widdows earlier this month. Based on the current makeup of the market, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a Classic Hits format.
