2011 Christmas/Holiday Radio Programming & Schedules

On the occasion of my one hundredth created thread at MMC we kick off the Fifth Annual "Christmas/Holiday Radio Programming & Schedules"

2007 * 2008 * 2009 * 2010

Happy Half Christmas 2011 & June 2011 Rudolph Day!

Last year, 2010, this thread was included in the Platinum only area (for posting). This resulted in way less participation and view count. 2011 will be no different. All members may read but only Platinum members are able to post. So, if you wish to contribute as a non-Platinum member, shoot me a private message and I'll copy and paste your information in this thread.

The usual:

Like its annual Christmas TV counterpart thread, this Radio version will keep track of stations airing seasonal programming.

Many commercial broadcast stations will become “Your Official Holiday/Christmas Station” in November.

Likewise, many Public Radio Stations will air special programming for the entire holiday season, starting with Halloween and Thanksgiving themes. Personally, I like these type programs because they explore music other than the top 100 or so Christmas tunes that commercial broadcast radio wear out every year.

As you learn of stations making the switch to all Christmas, post ‘em here. List the station call sign, frequency and city. Also be sure to include a station link, especially if they stream their audio online! Here are a couple of starting places that list as many all Christmas stations as they can:

http://www.100000watts.com/specials.asp (still showing the 427 stations of 2010 at post time)

http://www.web-radio.fm/christmas/ (includes broadcast and online stations)

Sirius XM and their associated Satellite TV channels should be included here too!

I’m hopeful that folks in other countries will research and post all Christmas radio/audio related content with station links so that we may partake! I still haven’t developed a method for researching sites such as BBC Radio of the UK.

As always, I reserve the right to quote anyone starting another thread or posting anywhere else about their station(s) “going all Christmas” here in this thread. In their initial excitement, some folks will overlook this thread!

'Christmas Across The Lands'

As has become tradition, 'Christmas Across The Lands' provides our first glimpse of 2011 Christmas radio programming!

Host Randy Sherwyn has been doing his annual twelve hour Christmas show since 1999! This year is no different. Randy begins preparation in February and by Summer usually has at least a couple of hours recorded and in the can!

Many stations around the world will air 'CAL' as part of their Christmas package.

Randy has set up a FaceBook page to keep interested folks like us in the know! Get on over there and 'like' the page! Tell Randy, RadioJonD (Jonathan) sent you!

Randy is also a member here at MMC so maybe he will pop in and enlighten us with a few scoops (hint hint) before they hit the FaceBook page!

Oh, and at the 'CAL' page, one may stream the 2009 show!

Christmas Across the Lands Update:

From the CAL FaceBook Page Today:

It's a Holiday weekend, and once again, I have the Holiday wrong! :) Just finished Hour 3 of CAL 2011, and tomorrow it's on to start Hr 4. Hr 4 has a brand new interview with Dr. Elmo of "Grandma Got Run Over" fame. He's just as crazy as he is in the song, but a fun crazy. Have a great 4th weekend, and Merry Christmas! :)

I'm excited to say that I have an update for the St. Louis area on Christmas music for 2011!!

Our oldies station KLOU 103.3 will be a new option for Christmas music this season on air. The station will convert to all Christmas music for the season cheesy For those of us too impatient to wait, they have begun streaming Christmas music 24/7 at their website:

http://www.klou.com

I have to say, this is pretty early on for even our area. Not complaining though in the least. I am also hoping since this is an oldies station, that we may get a bit more from the old crooners and maybe a bit (or a LOT) less Mariah Carrey. Lord knows we could all do with less of her.... lol

Thanks Jon! Can't wait.

Three Quarters & Counting!

Update from CAL today:

Christmas Across the Lands

Just finished Hour 8. The last segment full of good stuff, but it kicked my a** in editing time! Chrissy (Sheltie) got bored and left the studio room. Oh well! She doesn't know it yet, but I bought her a beef rib to BBQ this aft. Hour 9 will be a fun one with Chip Davis from Mannheim Steamroller, new this year! Happy Holidays!!!! :)

[QUOTE=RadioJonD;351396]Some U.S. TV cable systems feature audio channels from Music Choice.

From Music Choice's 2011 schedule:

Tuesday October 2 through Tuesday November 1 - Halloween music
Wednesday November 2 through Friday January 6, 2012 - CHRISTMAS music!

Last year, the Christmas music kicked in right on schedule, but the graphics & holiday trivia remained in Halloween. Burl Ives was singing, "Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas" with a menacing, creepy guy coming out from behind a grave stone. HO-HO-NO!!!

"Christmas Across The Lands" 9th Hour!

Randy Sherwyn reports that Hour Nine (of twelve) of his annual "Christmas Across the Lands" is done!

Included: an interview with Mannheim Steamroller's Chip Davis!
