2009 Christmas/Holiday Radio Programming & Schedules

WOW! This thread hasn’t started this early before! Let’s kick it off for July’s Rudolph Day & in Christmas In July style, shall we?!

The usual:

Like its annual Christmas TV counterpart thread, this Radio version will keep track of stations airing seasonal programming.

Many commercial broadcast stations will become “Your Official Holiday/Christmas Station” in November. Last year (2008), WMVN (101.1) in St. Louis, Missouri was the first going all Christmas on October 10. (This was for a format change so don’t look for it as early, if at all, this year.)

Likewise, many Public Radio Stations will air special programming for the entire holiday season, starting with Halloween and Thanksgiving themes. Personally, I like these type programs because they explore music other than the top 100 or so Christmas tunes that commercial broadcast radio wear out every year.

As you learn of stations making the switch to all Christmas, post ‘em here. List the station call sign, frequency and city. Also be sure to include a station link, especially if they stream their audio online! Here are a couple of starting places that list as many all Christmas stations as they can:

http://www.100000watts.com/specials.asp

http://www.web-radio.fm/christmas/ (includes broadcast and online stations)

Sirius XM and their associated Satellite TV channels should be included here too!

I’m hopeful that someone in the UK will research and post all Christmas radio/audio related content with station links so that we may partake! I still haven’t developed a method for researching sites such as BBC Radio.

We always invite people from all countries to share your stations as well!

As always, I reserve the right to quote anyone starting another thread or posting anywhere else about their station(s) “going all Christmas” here in this thread. In their initial excitement, some folks will overlook this thread!

Christmas Across The Lands

The reason we can start so early!

“Christmas Across The Lands” is a twelve hour syndicated Christmas show that stations may purchase and air. Breaks are included for local stations to insert commercials and other items of interest. Many have their employees and/or public officials offering Holiday greetings during these breaks.

2009 is the Tenth Anniversary of “Christmas Across The Lands” and at post time work is in progress for the eleventh hour of the program to be finished.

But here is the BEST PART!! 2009 Hour One is available for a listen! Check it out! - http://www.christmasacrossthelands.com/

Don’t forget the playlist.

We’ll look/listen for them again this year (2009)! They made the 2008 list on October 21:

Notice they don’t say Christmas. Most won’t, preferring to use Holiday. Personally, I would boycott those!

I'll keep my ear to the ground (and the radio) and will report anything I find relevant.

That said, the UK isn't quite as festively minded - certainly early on anyway - as the rest of the free world!!!

Hopefully at least some of you took advantage of some of the over the air programming in these pages. Being that Christmas was on a Friday, some of the commercial stations may continue Christmas music through the weekend, but I highly doubt it.

The two legendary 24 hour Christmas marathon shows have concluded for 2009. I got to record the majority of both shows and listen live for a while. In addition I was able to log in to each chat and hang out a bit. Fun stuff for a tradition!

But, just in case you though that radio would cut you off cold, left over turkey, hold on to your candy canes! It ain’t quite over yet for on air broadcasts!

Regular readers of this thread will, no doubt, be in the know and still tuned online (and maybe on the radio dial) to WCSF from Joliet, Illinois! That’s right, The University of St. Frances radio station still has a whole EIGHT days of Christmas music left!

What are you waiting for? (As always, remember boys and girls, a preposition are a terrible think to end a sentence with.)

WCSF – 88.7 – Joliet, Illinois USA

All Christmas with an online listen link til January 2, 2010!

http://www.stfrancis.edu/content/the...eam/index.html

But wait! That ain’t all! We’ve come full circle! The last portion of WCFS’ Christmas programming consists of back to back airings of the show/item that started this thread back on Rudolph Day, July 25, 2009!

Hi Jon..
I wrote to you a few weeks ago to thank you for this thread and for the list of stations playing Christmas music.
I wanted to let you know that I emailed every single station on your list (every one that had contact information on their webiste) and I received responses from about 20. Of those, about 14 ended up playing my song., "The House on Christmas Street"...and I got interviewed on a couple of them too! I even got an email from the LIFT FM in Cape May saying that my song had made it into regualr rotation and only 5% of indie music submitted makes it that far.
I owe you a huge debt of gratitude for providing this information. I know you do it mainly for people who want to listen to Christmas music and programming on the radio, but I think you should know that for this indie musician it is a GREAT resource. I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for putting it all together and making it available.
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and that your New Year is wonderful!

You Are Very Welcome...

...Judy! Indie artists & lables just don't receive enough attention in the shadow of the huge music machine too focused on it's next moneymaker.

Congratulations on your airplay & interviews! Your diligence rather than my assistance is what made the difference!

Of course, when you’re a big star, I’ll be saying I knew Judy way back when…!
