Christmas Decorations Christmas is a hands-on art. From the lights we put on the house to the decorations we put on the tree to the great foods we eat in the process, Christmas is a time of doing -- and this is the place we gather to talk, plan and share.

18 16x16 Unique Advent calendars?

I usually wrap 25 mini gifts. We fill them with trinkets and candy and add a little number label for the countdown. It's fun to have the kiddos open a little present everyday in December.

Do you have any unique advent calendar ideas or suggestions?

We do a Christmas sock garland. It was based on an idea from www.familyfun.com We use a pre-made garland and use clothespins to hang 24 Christmas socks, which include socks for each family member. Every day we put either a small treat, something to represent an activity to do together that day, hints to find a gift that doesn't fit in the sock (ie a new Christmas movie or game), etc. I love how the socks look hanging from the garland and my kids love opening the sock of the day. (:

I know a lot of people do this and I'm considering doing it this year....wrapping 25 Children's books and opening one/day in Dec.

We are devout Christians and one other thing I'm considering doing this year is making 25 ornaments with different names on each that refer to Christ (as found in the scriptures.) Then, each day we can choose one ornament, discuss the name, and then hang the ornament on the tree.

This is a great question and I look forward to hearing more responses!

It was probably a given, but just to make sure it's clear...the 25 books would all be Christmas books. I think I will wrap them in Christmas wrapping paper (of course) and then put them in a basket or something under the tree. (:
