My Merry Christmas Announcement

Christmas Decorations Christmas is a hands-on art. From the lights we put on the house to the decorations we put on the tree to the great foods we eat in the process, Christmas is a time of doing -- and this is the place we gather to talk, plan and share.

We adjust out outside timers according to the time before during and after Christmas. Usually, we have the outside lights come on around 5:00 pm and turn off at 1am. Except Christmas Eve and Day; I adjust the timers on those days, to shutoff at 6am.

Our inside lights go on as soon as I wake up in the morning. If it's a dreary day outside, I let them on all day. If it's bright & sunny, I turn them of when I leave for work b/c nobody will see them from the outside anyway. But they always go on while I am home for lunch! And as soon as I get home from work they are back on & on until I go to bed.
Our outside lights are on from dusk until around midnight or 1 am. On Christmas Eve & christmas night I let them on all night!

I usually left mine on all night.

In the mornings, I like to turn the bathroom heater on to warm up the room before a shower. That outlet is on the same line as one of the outside lights, so it's been known to throw a breaker occasionally. So, I have to go out into the garage (it's attached, fortunately) and unplug one of the light strands before I can heat up the bathroom.

Oh, the modern day pains!!

I don't leave my lights on all night, I shut them off at night to save on electricity costs. All of us, whomever wakes first always turns the tree on first thing. I do leave some lights on one day during the season. Christmas Eve. So Santa can see the house and in the house.

The outdoor lights are on a "Holiday Plug" that automatically turns the lights on at 4:30 and turns them off at 2:00am.

The indoor lights and the 3 Christmas trees are plugged in when my wife or I wake up in the morning and I unplug them when I go to sleep.

If we are home for Christmas the Trees and all lights stay on from Chistmas Eve morning to Boxing Day.
