Why Go All Christmas?

Here is an interesting piece about decisions radio stations make to go all Christmas. This may explain why your local station that switched to all Christmas last year may not this year. Ratings are everything when trying to turn a profit!

WAJI - Fort Wayne, Indiana USA

WAJI – Majic 95.1 - Fort Wayne, IN

Majic 95.1 already has an online Christmas page billing itself as “Your Christmas Music Station!”

http://www.waji.com/pmtions/christmas2009.html

I didn’t notice any definite date when, or even if, WAJI will make the switch on air. If you live in the area give a listen and let us know. Majic 95.1’s normal programming is “The Best of the 90s and Now” A listen link is available.

Custom Channels – 2009 Holiday Music Channel Station Checklist

At least Custom Channels still says “Christmas!”

I would be VERY INTERESTED in hearing about any local radio station with original Christmas programming, especially if they have an online listen link!
Custom Channels – The Christmas Channel Experts – 2009 Holiday Music Channel Station Checklist

Regular readers of this thread and similar ones from previous years will already know that most radio stations’ Christmas programming isn’t totally local. The above list will help you to understand the inner workings of a Christmas format change during the season. Custom Channels is one of a handful of companies that customizes a radio station Christmas package. From an on line page to on air broadcasting, you will get an idea of how a Christmas station works.

(Should I “sell out” and seek a job with Custom Channels?)

Whoa!

I literally just read this on the XM site and came here to post it.

I should have known better that you'd beat me to it! Haha.

Lol! We’ll see who’s first with the complete schedule, eh?

I sure hope Special X-Mas returns. It dropped in 2008 during the Sirius/XM merger. The closest thing to Special X-Mas is Slacker Radio’s Dysfunctional Christmas channel.

<#58> WOGL is also broadcasting “Christmas Classic” on their HD-2 channel if anyone in the area has a hi-def radio in their home and/or vehicle.
