Christmas DecorationsChristmas is a hands-on art. From the lights we put on the house to the decorations we put on the tree to the great foods we eat in the process, Christmas is a time of doing -- and this is the place we gather to talk, plan and share.
I've never had outside lights, but my tree lights go on at dusk and are turned off before I go to bed. On Christmas Day, they are on all day. Now, my brother-in-law insists, as far as his home, that once the Christmas tree lights are turned on after they set up their tree, they stay up night and day the entire Christmas season! Now, they keep them on a dimmer, so they are not at full power, but still, we're talking a little over a month, usually , that their tree lights stay on. And, no one knows why he is so adamant about it; not even my sister.
We plug everything in when we get home from work (inside and out) and unplug everything as we are leaving the house the next morning. On weekends, they may stay on 24/7 if we are at home. There are so many things we have up that need electricity that it would run us easily $200+ in timers and other needed stuff for the outlets (at $6-$9 each).
Yeah, it is worth it in the long run to buy them but I never think about it until after everything is up and the thought of making another run to Lowes or WalMart to spend that kind of money this time of year really urks me.
We've never had outdoor lights. As for indoor tree lights, definitely not. We're all very careful of anything that's a fire hazard, so when we go out or go to bed, the lights go off. Fortunately, we plug them into an outlet that has a power switch, so we can just use that instead of unplugging them. We've also only burned candles at Christmas once for that very reason.
Outside lights are on timers, come on at 6:00 PM, go off at 1:00 AM, stay on all night Christmas Eve, and all day Christmas Day....Inside lights are on any time I am awake and home....Merry Christmas.....
JESUS is the Reason for the Season......Wise Men Still Seek Him.....
My lights inside while.. someone is up and is home...the outside lights around dark (like 5ish) I don't leave anything on all night or when I'm not home. Not so much worried about the power bill as I am an electrical fire.
I don't really like the idea of advertising when we're awake and when we're asleep or when we're home/away. Ours are on all the time right now but that was just this past week of excitement at having put them up. It's been gloomy lately so you can see them even when it's daylight (at least a little bit).
But the real reason that they're on all the time is laziness. I vow to go put them on timers tonight! It's better for the bills.
Looking forward to Christmas a little early this year.
