When I was a kid we used it some years but not every year. It did look pretty but was just mess to clean up. I have not had tinsel on my tress since I was a kid.

When I was younger tinsel and garland both were staples on the tree. The tree was HUGE, though. When we moved to a smaller house, we just used tinsel until one of the dogs inhaled a bunch of it and almost choked.

I remember my mom letting me throw it on the tree haphazardly. The tree wasn't going to make it into the Christmas edition of Better Homes and Gardens, but it sure was fun!

Maybe I can talk Nancy into letting me use some tinsel this year.

As a kid we always had tinsel on the tree. Us kids would even take a piece or two and stick it on a window or my mothers china cabinet to give it a "cracked" look...*L*
I never use it now that I do my own tree...way to messy! And worse if you have animals....static cling!

I really dislike tinsel, mainly because I can't stand clumps of it on the tree. But more importantly it is very messy and can be dangerous to kids and animals.

We used to use it when I was growing up as a child but I have never used it on my own tree... with small kids and pets I feel its too dangerous. I do think it can look very pretty...my Mom was the "Tinsel Expert"... she made it look great but I have also seen trees where it looked like it was thrown on... it takes skill to make the tinsel look good
