CAH - I hope you are feeling much better today?

Went for a 15 mile bike ride this morning with my hubby & 2 lake neighbors! Was great!

Thanks for asking! I did feel a little better yesterday and hope to feel even better today after I wake up a little. =)

Holiday, sounds like you had a great bike ride! It's been up over 105 degrees here so no outdoor activities for us.

How's everybody doing this week?? Yesterday we got out 4 1/2 mile walk in the morning, & after work yesterday I rode my bike to the lake to water my flowers, then back home. WEW! I think the wind picked up on the way home - against us! 23.53 miles! This morning it was storming so we didn't get our walk in, but I did sneak a 2 mile walk in (by myself) a little later when the rain quit! I let a few lbs (6+) sneak back on & now it's time to GET RID OF THEM!!! Before my birthday!!! It's a goal!!!

Well I made it....we rode bicycle 30 miles in the Tour de Donut on Saturday! Rode another 15 miles yesterday - hoping to not "stiffen up" Lol! It worked...feeling good today! What a fun weekend!

Walked 4+ miles this morning, then jogged a 1/2 mile!

Nicely done!

That's awesome! I put in 5 miles today, though I only had the legs for four. Anyway, nicely done. Keep up the good work.

This morning I added an extra 3 minutes to my jogging time. I felt like I could keep going...it was one of them mornings! But this darn work thing gets in the way. Ha ha! I'm thinking about signing up for a "Dualthon" - 5k + 12 mile bike ride in October. Still debating on that one! There is also another local 12 1/2 or 25 mile bike ride in October. Amazing that before I bought a bicycle, I had no idea these events went on!

Great job Jimmy - I rode 4 miles yesterday at lunch & wasn't sure if I was going to make it! WIND!!!!

C-A-H,

Showing up is half the battle. If you're making it to the gym regularly, you're doing grand! Just keep at it. If you feel good, and your gym time is contributing to that, then you ARE doing something fantastic.

Hey Holiday,

Nice work! Wind is a wild card, isn't it? Take two days, identical in every way, then add wind to one, and your effort and results change dramatically. I always shorten a run if I'm fighting wind (and my runs are short to begin with). And sometimes I'll try to pick a more sheltered route.

We've probably addressed this in the past, but since it's top of mind for me today, I'll revisit the topic.

The days you least feel like exercise may be the days you most need it. I'm not talking about physical limitations--you need to be mindful of those and change your routine to meet the needs of your body. Self-maintenance is always your top priority.

I'm talking about mental fitness. We all find ourselves in the doldrums from time to time. A good run or walk or gym session can bring a little sun into a grey day.

Case in point: We had to put our little dog down on Monday. I keep walking into rooms expecting to find him there. I'm momentarily surprised when his food dish isn't in its place. I hear him moving, then realize, no, it's just the house responding to the weather. And when I pass by our bed, I expect to see that little comma of dark fur curled on the covers.

Hard week.

Yesterday I took an hour run, even though my heart wasn't in it. Best thing I could have done. Just as your mind can influence your body, you can use your body to alter your state of mind. I still felt the loss, of course. But I also felt a bit more alert after.

It's grey and wet here now, and I don't usually run back-to-back days. Today I will. I know it'll do me good.

Hope you don't need a mental boost any time soon. But the option is there when you do. Reach for it. It can't cure what ails you, but it may ease the symptoms.

Best,
jimmyo
