light How Do You Hang Your Tree Lights?

How do you hang the lights on your tree? Do you have a certain way that you put them on there each year?

I have a fake tree, so I usually go around the tree, after each layer of branches have been put in. Layer of limbs, layer of lights, and repeat until I get to the top. But, I'm thinking of trying the Rockefeller Center way this year and see how it turns out...

I guess you don't have the strands blink if you string them this way?

I love the strands to blink, which is the only reason I haven't strung them this way before. I like when one string blinks along the entire tree rather than half the tree blinking at a different time than the other half. Does that make sense?

My favorite kind of bulbs are the C7s that blink indivudually so those strands would definitely work to hang the way they suggested!

It's definitely a mess getting the lights off the tree every year!

I understand what you're saying. It would be tricky with regards to blinkers, when doing it in the RC style. I'm not worried about that though, I like blinking lights, but I really can't do them, sadly they bug me after a while.

As for removal: Since I put mine on layer by layer, I just go the opposite direction when winding them back up, and it makes the removal task go more smoothly.

i do the same as you Courtney. my tree is pre-lit w/ clear lights but i love colored 1's too so i put them on 1 layer @ a time using a bulls eye pattern. that way i have them in a 3-d kind of way.

i'm not a fan of the Rockefeller Center way. i've seen it before but i think i can see the lines, is that weird or what? lol

Xtree1

I start at the top (with the light for the star) and go down on each side.
I have 3 light chains on my tree. Two different sizes (clear light) and
one with colored light (not blinking!)
Cant wait to put it up!!!!!

I start at the bottom so I know I have enough to reach the wall outlet and then I go around and around. I usually end up adding more at the end and winding back down to fill in any gaps.

I always start at the bottom so make sure I have enough cord to reach my outlet. Even though I have a pre-lit tree, I add more lights because I like a lot of lights on my tree. I also wrap each branch with lights.

The rockerfeller method is interesting. I would have to test it and see how it differs. Normally I wrap lights around each branch (just about all) going left to right.

I do clear lights, I am not into the colored lights so much or the blinking ones. I do however think a flocked tree looks good with colored lights.

I also like the pulsing lights, they look like they twinkle. What I was thinking of doing was buying a strand of twinkle, take out a bulb and put random ones in around the existing light strand.

PS its xrockchild. I changed my name so you all can recognize me be a little better.
