Work Out Routines

Folks - i have been a trainer and am still lifting after all these years. I focus on power lifting now - but have worked many regiments up for every type of desired physic and goal set.
If you need some advice on dos and donts - or possible ways to improve - i am happy to help.
Also happy to discuss supplements - etc

what weight should I start with since I have never done this before? I have, or I should say my son has, 3lb, 5lb and 10lb dumbbells.
I need to get rid of my flabby underarms.

Whats your goal?

I have a question teacher! *raises hand up high*

My mother and I are both members of a gym with plenty of weight machines. She has had some problems with the side of her neck hurting at night and she thinks that maybe using one of the weight machines (lightest weight possible, of course) might strengthen the muscle in her neck to calm the pain down. I suggested yoga stretches. Which one do you think would work best or should she do both? If you suggest a weight machine, which one is best to strengthen the neck?

Until the pain is gone - its best to do stretching and slowly work the muscles in the neck up. Even interlocking your fingers behind your head and pulling your head down works the muscles and stretches.....

Hey Rod - I'm getting ready to join a gym. I'm remodeling my bathroom and need a place to shower while mine is out of commission. I was just going to do a 7 day guest pass and then drop it, but I'm thinking, maybe I should take this seriously.

I'm looking to loose weight and tone up. I need to lose around 40-45lbs. I work at a restaurant, so I "eat out" every day, but I have a lot of healthier options - grilled chicken sandwiches, salads, wraps and fruit. I'll be joining a Gold's Gym, because I really enjoy swimming for my cardio. I've always loved it, but I also have knee problems, so swimming is really fitting.

I've just gone through a miscarriage about 2 weeks ago, unfortunately, and would love to try again to get pregnant. I have decided, though, that it would be better if I tried to get in shape first so that I am healthier first before trying to get pregnant. For that reason, I'd like to have a routine that would also be easy for me to continue when/if I get pregnant.

Do you have any suggestions for me on starting a routine of both cardio and weight machines? I'll probably be able to go 4-5 times a week.

Thanks! Love this new section, by the way!!

~Laney

Hi Laney!
I would say to start up kind of slow since you have the weight to drop and then the miscarry to fully recover from. Yoga and water aerobics followed by some machine lifting would be your best best - while slowing back down to just yoga, water aerobics, and brisk walking once pregnant again...
Have you ever worked out before in a gym? Also have you talked to the trainers at the gym yet?

I have worked out at a gym, but never with any formal guidance and it has been years ago. I'll be going this afternoon after work to sign up at the gym. I know a lot of times gyms will offer one free trainer session when you sign up, so hopefully this gym will have that offer and I can jump on it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know that this gym does offer several yoga classes and 2 different water aerobics classes - one is a zumba one, which sounds a lot of fun. I have done yoga in the past when in college and I don't think I have ever felt better than when I was in a steady practice.

I'll let you know if we join this weekend and see if I have anymore questions. Thanks again

Also

I highly recommend the zumba one as well. It seems to incorporate stretching, dancing, aerobics, with a touch of fun.
Once you join - let me know where you are with it and we can do a personalized work out routine if you like.
You can also PM me if you like.
=)
