Christmas in July 2014 radio events!

It's June! You know what that means? It's time to start preparing once again for "Christmas in July" on the radio!

Sure, Christmas music is aired on many stations starting in the November/December (or October, if you're lucky), but this thread is dedicated to tracking the rare "Christmas in July" radio events!

There may be radio stations switching over to Christmas music for a day, or a weekend, a whole week, etc...or if they're not switching over to full Christmas music for a day, maybe they'll play a Christmas song at the top of the hour. Or maybe you've heard some advertisements on the radio that have a "Christmas in July" theme to them? Whatever you hear, this is the thread to report it!

So does anyone know of any "Christmas in July" events that are being advertised amongst their local radio stations, or on their radio stations websites?!?

As you learn of stations making the switch to all "Christmas in July", post ‘em here. List the station call sign, frequency and city. Also be sure to include a station link, especially if they stream their audio online!

So far, I've only spotted one station that's already preparing for "Christmas in July": Fox107.7 in Alabama is hinting at doing yet another "Christmas in July" event soon. I don't really see an announcement, but they just recently added a "Christmas in July" promo photo to their website. So they're getting ready!

EDIT: I guess this page on their website does mention a "Christmas in July" contest. Last year, they would play the occasional Christmas song and you call in to win a prize when you hear the Christmas song. I guess they're doing something similar this year.

Okay, so it's Internet radio, but Lite105, a light rock internet radio station based out of Dayton, Ohio, is going to switch to all Christmas music on July 1st at 12 noon, and will run Christmas music till Midnight, July 25th.

Lite105 also has a sister station online based out of St Louis, MO, Rewind 100 (which normally plays hits from the 60's to 80's), which is also switching to Christmas music on July 1st.

Both have a "Countdown to Christmas in July music" on their websites, it's really neat. Both stations are playing some Christmas music in the evenings in preparation for "Christmas in July". I know it's internet radio, but I like the feel of stations counting down to a full format change to non-stop Christmas music.

Still, if you did want non-stop Christmas music now, they have one more sister station: Frosty105, which airs non-stop Christmas music year round.

Yes ! It's CiJ 2014 !!

Thanks for this annual thread, KWasser!

So far, nary a peep from the radio sites I keep up with.

Independence Day in the U.S. is coming up real soon! Start listening for format changes on your local stations. Some may air Christmas music as a buffer between formats to get your attention.

Perhaps I can capture some of the changes and CiJ stations in the DAR.fm account.

Speaking of Christmas radio... I've been having trouble getting Kringle Radio to work on my TuneIn app. Anybody else have problems with it?

Similar to Fox107 above, BigFrog104 (out of Marcy, NY), started a special today asking you to listen for a Christmas song to be played (3 times a day) and to call in to win a prize. I'd listen just to hear the Christmas music.

Radio Insight has an annual list of July 4 week radio format changes here. Some may stunt with Christmas music in between.

Oldies Your Way - Internet

Maybe we'll see some Christmas music action here this year. I see where Bud Francis just signed up here at MMC today! Wonder if it's the same one?

From last year:

Addendum: As luck would have it, I was recording a sampling of OYW via DAR.fm to see if the programming would be to my taste. Imagine my surprise when DJ Bud Francis segued from Fourth of July Patriotic music into Christmas in July! DAR caught the program for my archive!

An online DJ that I listen to is moving his show from one internet station (Top Shelf Oldies) to Oldies Your Way which is a new place for me. I logged into chat and thanked Francis for the CiJ music. I'm not a huge fan of Doo-Wop as some of the shows at both places feature however, overall there are some good and obscure oldies at both. Most of the DeeJays are serious record collectors!
