Having a new baby is a huge event in one’s life.  There are so many things to get ready before your baby gets here, that it can sometimes feel overwhelming.  The first thing you’ll want to do is create a checklist of things you will need once the baby arrives.  Things like bottles, diapers, formula, blankets, clothing, and baby furniture will be needed, to name a few.  The mother should decide whether or not she is going to breast feed her newborn, and then plan accordingly.  Once you get the items you need, it’s time to get the baby’s room prepared.  Painting and decorating is the fun part of getting ready to prepare for a newborn baby.  Things like safety items are also necessary to have in place like outlet plug covers, child safety locks for all cabinets, and a first aid kit.  You will also want to have a pediatrician already assigned for your child once he or she is born.  Often your birthing doctor can recommend one for you.

While getting the room prepared, it’s important to be sure it is safe as far as bedding.  The baby crib should be assembled securely, and all parts safely intact and tight.  The baby bedding itself should be attached to the crib tightly as well.  Baby monitors are another great thing to get when preparing for a newborn.  This way, if you’re not always able to be in the same room with your baby, you will still be able to hear them crying when they need you.  For families with pets, there may be some extra steps in preparing for a newborn.  Be sure your dog is accustomed to small children.  Dogs can become jealous of new family members, so you want them to understand when the baby arrives.  Once you’ve gotten everything on your list, prepared the room and stocked up, it’s time to get excited for your new arrival, and anticipate a happy life and family.
